A pediatric case early in the career left a lasting impact. Despite our best efforts, the outcome was not favorable, which underscored the emotional weight and the need to seek support to prevent burnout.

Q: What got you pulled into the fire service, and was there a defining moment that made you commit?
My initial plan was to become a sheriff's deputy like my dad, but a girl I was dating and her family encouraged me to try the fire academy; I fell in love with firefighting and stayed with it, especially after volunteering taught me valuable experience.
