  • Absolutely top notch

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve replaced Netflix with this podcast alone. Love the breadth and depth that topics are discussed, and the hosts always ask questions that invoke my own thinking. Not sure how they do it but after an episode, I feel like I myself was having a conversation with the guests!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Relieving the symptoms and stigma of female urinary incontinence
Q: What are the first-line treatment options for stress incontinence versus urge incontinence?
For stress incontinence, the focus is on non-pharmacologic options like pelvic floor physiotherapy or pessaries, with surgery considered in selected cases. For urge incontinence, the mainstay is pharmacologic therapy, starting with beta-3 agonists such as mirabegron, followed by antimuscarinics if needed, while monitoring blood pressure and tolerability.
Relieving the symptoms and stigma of female urinary incontinence
Q: What are the main types of urinary incontinence discussed in the CMAJ review?
The two most common types are stress urinary incontinence, which leaks with actions like coughing or sneezing, and urgency incontinence, which is leakage associated with a sudden urge to go to the bathroom. Each type has different diagnostic clues and treatment approaches.
Understanding near-death experiences
Q: What should be the ideal physician reaction when a patient tells them about a near-death experience?
Hosts and guests emphasize inviting the conversation, validating the experience, listening non-judgmentally, helping the patient derive meaning, normalizing the experience, and guiding them to reputable resources.
Understanding near-death experiences
Q: But let me start just by asking, why did you write this paper? What inspired it?
Andrés Delgado explains that the topic kept appearing in literature and intersected with his lab work on psychedelics, which led him to systematically review near-death experiences and their connections to psychedelics.
Endometriosis and the devastating risks of untreated disease
Q: Set the scene for us here. Why was this study important to do? What does endometriosis have to do with fertility?
The study emphasizes that roughly 10 percent of reproductive-aged individuals have endometriosis and explores how endometriosis can influence pregnancy outcomes, including the risk of congenital anomalies, while distinguishing the independent impact of fertility treatments versus the disease itself.
