  • Hard-hitting and smart while being pleasant and entertaining

This podcast gives a great overview of the current issues facing Salt Lake City, as well as all of the events and happenings of the week. I’m not usually a local news guy — I don’t like being pumped up with irrational fear. That’s not what this podcast is about. It takes an optimistic, rational, progressive viewpoint and makes a concerted effort to give listeners the tools and knowledge to participate in the community in an informed manner. The interviews are excellent and the host is a seasone... more

  • Local flavor

Love having a local news source in podcast form. Wish they didn’t also push other random podcasts on the feed.

  • Informative and helpful

Great show, taught me a lot of great resources about my new city. Love the restaurant, bar, and shopping recommendations in particular. Accessible hosts that are fun to listen to and have great takes. Knocked a star off for all the spam oprah podcast “features” (seriously, it feels like oprah pops up in my podcast queue every week cuz of this show).

  • Far-left nonsense

They’ve got some good local commentary when it happens to be a non-political issue, but for the most part they are pushing the extremist religion of leftism.

  • So pleasant, careful with the pushiness though

I like this podcast. Ali does a great job and it’s fun to hear her chat with Emily. That being said, I understand you need members, but four separate membership pushes in a single episode is just too much. You have paid advertisers and other funding, so give people a break from the pushy pushes. Especially in this economy.

'Your City Could Be Better': What Salt Lake Needs To Know About Pittsburgh's Plan To Fix Downtown
Q: How do events like the NFL Draft influence downtown revitalization, and is the impact lasting or temporary?
Draft-related activity provides a deadline and spotlight that accelerates investments, but the long-term success depends on whether the momentum, relationships, and small-business ecosystems persist after the event.
'Your City Could Be Better': What Salt Lake Needs To Know About Pittsburgh's Plan To Fix Downtown
Q: What is the broader takeaway for listeners in other cities—could citizen-driven efforts replicate this model elsewhere?
The core takeaway is that building local coalitions and relationships in a neighborhood can drive adoption of similar programs, and that community advocacy and connectedness are crucial for turning pilot initiatives into durable urban improvements.
'Your City Could Be Better': What Salt Lake Needs To Know About Pittsburgh's Plan To Fix Downtown
Q: What kind of deal could a small business owner get under the rent abatement program, and how does that compare to before this program existed?
The program offers 50 percent off total rent up to $2,000 for 12 months, with leases required to be at least three years; at typical downtown rents, that often translates to small storefronts around 125 square feet, making it feasible for small operators to test Downtown Pittsburgh without large upfront costs.
'Your City Could Be Better': What Salt Lake Needs To Know About Pittsburgh's Plan To Fix Downtown
Q: Megan Harris, what's the favorite thing you used to be able to do in downtown Pittsburgh that you can't do anymore?
A lot of the fun used to be tied to the proximity of downtown amenities—like walking to a fountain and catching a sunrise from the Point—but now the area has shifted with vacancies and changes in food options; the conversation is about how new small businesses are filling spaces and reviving activity.
The New vs. Old Utah Accent
Q: What is the new Utah accent?
The guest describes a shift in how some younger speakers pronounce certain vowels and consonant sounds, noting that features once common among older Utah residents are fading while newer, more standardized patterns and hyper-articulated variants are emerging, particularly in word-final NG and T sounds in Mountain-related words.
