  • Hard-hitting and smart while being pleasant and entertaining

This podcast gives a great overview of the current issues facing Salt Lake City, as well as all of the events and happenings of the week. I’m not usually a local news guy — I don’t like being pumped up with irrational fear. That’s not what this podcast is about. It takes an optimistic, rational, progressive viewpoint and makes a concerted effort to give listeners the tools and knowledge to participate in the community in an informed manner. The interviews are excellent and the host is a seasone... more

  • Local flavor

Love having a local news source in podcast form. Wish they didn’t also push other random podcasts on the feed.

  • Informative and helpful

Great show, taught me a lot of great resources about my new city. Love the restaurant, bar, and shopping recommendations in particular. Accessible hosts that are fun to listen to and have great takes. Knocked a star off for all the spam oprah podcast “features” (seriously, it feels like oprah pops up in my podcast queue every week cuz of this show).

  • Far-left nonsense

They’ve got some good local commentary when it happens to be a non-political issue, but for the most part they are pushing the extremist religion of leftism.

  • So pleasant, careful with the pushiness though

I like this podcast. Ali does a great job and it’s fun to hear her chat with Emily. That being said, I understand you need members, but four separate membership pushes in a single episode is just too much. You have paid advertisers and other funding, so give people a break from the pushy pushes. Especially in this economy.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Anxious About Aging? Retire on a College Campus.
Q: Could this be a viable business strategy for the University of Utah?
The guest argues that the business case is increasingly plausible as demographic trends shift and similar models proliferate nationwide, suggesting a sustainable path even if the economics are complex and context-dependent.
Anxious About Aging? Retire on a College Campus.
Q: Talk to me about cost and affordability of campus-based aging communities.
The guest acknowledges that these options are expensive, with upfront payments or ongoing rental costs, and notes that cost is a significant factor for families, though there may be long-term value in health care proximity and community benefits.
Anxious About Aging? Retire on a College Campus.
Q: Why would you want to go back to college and be surrounded by insecure teenagers in your 80s and 90s?
The guest explains that for many older adults, spending later years on campus can be life-affirming, offering engagement, learning, and a sense of purpose through access to classes, culture, and community. They point to models near campuses and the appeal of staying active, connected, and intellectually engaged.
'Your City Could Be Better': Why Portland’s Considering Hiring a Night Mayor — Presented By City Cast Salt Lake
Q: What can listeners in other cities take from this conversation to help make their city better?
If a city's downtown is struggling post-pandemic, focusing on nightlife, arts, and cultural events—driving people downtown and fostering a vibrant, safe nighttime economy—can be a viable, citizen-driven approach, as demonstrated by Portland's experience with night economy leadership.
'Your City Could Be Better': Why Portland’s Considering Hiring a Night Mayor — Presented By City Cast Salt Lake
Q: Claudia, what is the most annoying thing you have witnessed while out and about at night in Portland?
The most annoying part is the lack of late-night venues and activities, which leads to deserted streets, more vandalism, and a sense that downtown is unsafe, making it harder for the nightlife economy to thrive.
