  • The city paper of podcasts

I listen almost every morning while I’m getting ready for work. A cup of joe and Claudia and friends keeping me informed and entertained. They do a great job of summarizing local news, suggesting events and restaurants, and apparently having a pretty good time creating a daily podcast. Thanks y’all. It brightens my day.

  • Hard to find the news

It is often difficult to separate the news from the commentary on the Friday News Roundup. I want to be a resident informed enough to feel connected and contribute to everyday conversation. An accusation of “white-liberal racism” on the February 6 edition is an obstacle to that goal.

  • Thank you!

Thank you for using your platform to ask Sen Wyden about his continued arms support to Israel. The safety of Jewish people in Israel cannot exist without the safety of the Palestinians, so to me his answer was empty. He is also responsible for this genocide and we'll never forget.

Police Chief Bob Day on ‘Blue Flu’ Accusations, High-Priority Call Response Times, and Needing More Police Officers
Q: What factors are driving the changes in high-priority call response times?
Chief Day explains that while overall calls may be down, the most dangerous calls require more resources and time; geography, staffing shifts over the years, and the need for specialized teams like ECIT/ECST contribute to the longer response process. He emphasizes that the department is prioritizing safety and working to reallocate resources, including adding officers, to address these demands.
Where To Eat Vegan Without Ditching Your Meat-Loving Friends
Q: What's your favorite Cates ice cream flavor?
Sara discusses seasonal favorites and staples like mint chocolate chip, along with unique rotating flavors such as a rose-water-infused option, highlighting the variability of vegan ice creams.
Where To Eat Vegan Without Ditching Your Meat-Loving Friends
Q: What about some picks for places that are fully vegan, but that you think everybody would enjoy?
Sara recommends venues like fully vegan spots and shows how some non-vegan friends can enjoy meals there, emphasizing inclusive dining and the variety available across Portland.
‘Your City Could Be Better’: Why Is Pittsburgh’s Airport the Gold Standard? — Presented By City Cast Portland
Q: What can listeners in other cities take away from this conversation to make their own city better?
If you have space around an airport, explore conversations with officials about replicating a microgrid concept, study financing options with private partners to avoid taxpayer burden, and consider the overall reliability benefits and potential cost savings as part of a broader energy strategy.
‘Your City Could Be Better’: Why Is Pittsburgh’s Airport the Gold Standard? — Presented By City Cast Portland
Q: How is what Pittsburgh has done different from typical airport power systems?
Unlike traditional airports that rely on stand-alone generators and external fuels, Pittsburgh's system operates in-house with a large solar array and on-site gas generators, with seamless switching to the grid if needed, and a built-in redundancy that minimizes visible outages.
