  • Hard to find the news

It is often difficult to separate the news from the commentary on the Friday News Roundup. I want to be a resident informed enough to feel connected and contribute to everyday conversation. An accusation of “white-liberal racism” on the February 6 edition is an obstacle to that goal.

  • Thank you!

Thank you for using your platform to ask Sen Wyden about his continued arms support to Israel. The safety of Jewish people in Israel cannot exist without the safety of the Palestinians, so to me his answer was empty. He is also responsible for this genocide and we'll never forget.

  • Biased reporting on local politics

I listen to this podcast for local flavor and recs however, only one side of a political issue is represented. I have lived in Pdx since 2016 and sadly watched one of my fave(still is) city deteriorate in terms of trash everywhere and safety concerns. Please City cast Pdx in this hyped up polarized world, include both sides of local political issues.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Portland's New City Administrator on the ICE Facility and Our Looming Budget Crunch
Q: What should the public expect to see this year in terms of budget cuts?
He indicates that a series of budget meetings will decide which core services might face reductions, with a focus on aligning the mayor's and council's priorities while maintaining essential services.
Portland's New City Administrator on the ICE Facility and Our Looming Budget Crunch
Q: Explain your thinking there. Why do you think it's important for us to keep this ICE facility in the city?
Lee emphasizes access to immigration processing as a core municipal service and argues that closing the facility could push residents to seek processes in other states, undermining the city's ability to support those pursuing citizenship.
‘Your City Could Be Better’: DC’s Plan To Hold Federal Agents Accountable — Presented By City Cast Portland
Q: What exactly is in the two DC Council bills and how did they come to be considered by the council?
The bills require local cops to release body cam footage within five days if certain deadly force or arrest-related triggers occur during interactions with federal agents, and to disclose the names of federal officers involved under similar circumstances; they emerged from concerns about the overreach and optics of federal involvement and the desire to protect home rule.
'Your City Could Be Better': What Portland Needs To Know About Utah's Controversial 'Homeless Campus' Plan
Q: Why are advocates worried about the use of a registry to facilitate access to this facility?
Critics fear that requiring people to register to access the campus could create stigma, reduce trust, and hamper voluntary participation, especially given the history of surveillance concerns tied to the Palantir-connected think-tank leadership involved in the proposal.
How Portland Public Schools Will Address Urgent Budget Gaps
Q: How is PPS going to make up the $10 million deficit this year?
The options on the table include a furlough day or two and possible layoffs, but the exact mix has not been decided yet, with a preference leaning toward furloughs to avoid cutting staff during the school year.
