  • Has potential, but too political

I wish this show could just be a politically neutral show about Pittsburgh, but it has a lot of political talk. And it’s not centrist political talk…these people are extremists.

I just gave the show another chance after a long hiatus, thinking “the culture has moderated a lot over the last few years, maybe they won’t be so ridiculous”…but then within the first episode I listened to, they’re talking about transing children as an active good, without scruple or debate.

  • Cannot stand Sophia

Sophia brings my rating down by at least 2 stars. Her disdain for the region is so consistantly evident. Please, if you hate everything so much because it’s different than where you’re from, go back to Philly or wherever. Everything Sophia says is a downer and makes this show miserable. She adds nothing of substance, just a rain cloud on the show.

  • Advertising for landlords?

Loved this podcast until they started advertising for platforms geared toward landlords and property management companies. Do better. Tenants are in crisis. Let’s not make landlords’ jobs easier.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Taxing Pool Tables, School Closure Aftermath & Breweries in Bankruptcy
Q: School closures. Mallory, tell us the gist of what happened, and then James, we'll turn it to you.
The PPS Board voted to close nine schools over the next few years, with most closures taking effect in 2027 and others in 2029 due to building renovations, and a broader move toward a neighborhood-based elementary-middle-high model with reorganized feeder patterns.
The Weird Things You Can and Can't Do in a Pittsburgh Backyard
Q: Can you legally be naked in your own backyard?
Yes, but it must be private and not visible to neighbors; exposure in public spaces could fall under indecent exposure laws.
Sara Innamorato on Paid Leave, Term Limits, and a Fancy New Hotel
Q: Please explain what is in this paid parental leave policy and why it is considered necessary.
The policy expands paid sick leave to include 18 weeks of paid parental leave for both public and private sector employees, addressing postpartum health, infant care, and economic stability, with a framework to comment and refine details before moving forward.
'Your City Could Be Better': Do DC’s Hated Traffic Cameras Really Make the City Safer? — Presented By City Cast Pittsburgh
Q: What should other cities take away from DC's experience?
Automated enforcement can reduce risky driving in targeted locations, but it must be part of broader safety upgrades like street design, slower road geometry, and protected pedestrian infrastructure.
'Your City Could Be Better': Do DC’s Hated Traffic Cameras Really Make the City Safer? — Presented By City Cast Pittsburgh
Q: Bridget, what is it actually like living with cameras in DC driving life?
The presence of cameras makes drivers hyper aware; the systems use sensors and photos to mail citations, which changes behavior but doesn't singlehandedly stop all traffic fatalities.
