  • My Podcast Source for DC News

Solid coverage of DC politics, albeit a little more establishment-friendly (plus other coverage of what’s going on events- and development-wise in town). It’s definitely gotten better in the past year and topics are usually good- I’d say I find something to listen to 3-4 times a week (out of 5 episodes a week)

  • “Like”

It’s interesting content, especially what’s going on in DC this month, but every other word is “like.” Had to turn it off.

  • Great local coverage

I’m a pretty new listener but have really enjoyed breakdowns of hyper-local issues (like the impact of congress’ budget cuts to dc residents specifically).

However they push so many other podcasts into my feed that I’ve considered unsubscribing… a one off highlight of another pod is fine but the *same* other podcasts show up constantly, which is very annoying.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

'Your City Could Be Better': Could a Nevada Brothel Help Redefine Labor Standards Nationwide? — Presented By City Cast DC
Q: What is at stake in the employee vs. independent contractor distinction for these workers?
Employee status would enable unionization, overtime, workers' comp, minimum wage, and greater protections, whereas independent contractor status preserves more autonomy but fewer protections; this distinction drives broader precedent for other gig and intimate-work sectors.
'Your City Could Be Better': Could a Nevada Brothel Help Redefine Labor Standards Nationwide? — Presented By City Cast DC
Q: Do you know what the fees are by any chance?
Fees are negotiated privately inside the room between the worker and client, with the house taking a cut; the house also monitors negotiations to ensure no off-book arrangements.
What Would Happen If Trump Revoked Home Rule
Q: What historical patterns might inform Bowser's tactics in defending home rule, given this unprecedented threat?
Historical patterns show that federal authorities have used budgetary control and riders to influence DC governance, while political leadership in DC must navigate a centralized federal power structure and court challenges, making strategy a mix of policy defense, legal action, and coalition-building.
What Would Happen If Trump Revoked Home Rule
Q: Would DC return to the commissioners or another form of direct federal control if Home Rule disappeared?
If Home Rule vanished, the framework would likely revert to a more centralized, federally controlled form of governance (e.g., a temporary control board or similar mechanism), rather than a seamless return to the old commissioner system, with substantial uncertainty about day-to-day administration.
What Would Happen If Trump Revoked Home Rule
Q: What would have to happen for Home Rule to be ended? Could Trump simply revoke it with a fiat?
Ending Home Rule would require Congress passing a statute to repeal or drastically alter it, likely accompanied by significant political maneuvering and potential constitutional challenges; virtually any straightforward repeal would face hurdles like a potential filibuster and the need to establish an alternative governance structure.
