  • So many ideas to make you think about the Circular Economy

I have only just found this podcast, and am trying to catch up on my daily commute. I thought I knew a lot about the Circular Economy but the various guests on the show always leave me with new ideas, or thinking about a different way of doing things. Whilst I can’t always immediately put them into action, I have already added a couple of new projects into the Department’s work stream and that is after listening to about ten episodes.

  • The base for my new project

I have just finished listening to all 29 episodes and taking notes to help me on the building of my new business model, we have just introduced eco and ethical practices to our 10 years old convenience store and now we found new premises where we want to try to apply the circular economy concept from the start. This show has fed me with information, contacts, inspiration and above all gave me self-belief, thank you!!!

I’m constantly blown away by some of the ideas and businesses included on this podcast. How are there not more businesses doing these things? Question is which one can I copy with pride to bring to a new market using some of my existing skills!! 🤔

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

181 Dr. Meital Peleg Mizrachi: the rebound effects of second-hand fashion platforms
Q: Do most of us see second-hand fashion as part of the circular economy, and does buying second-hand reduce consumption?
No—while second-hand can be part of circularity, the research shows it often coincides with renewed or increased consumption due to factors like lower prices and social factors.
181 Dr. Meital Peleg Mizrachi: the rebound effects of second-hand fashion platforms
Q: Does feeling good about taking action on sustainability always power people on to increase their sustainable behaviours?
No, the data suggests that positive actions can trigger a rebound where people buy more, offsetting the sustainability benefits.
179 Dimitri Naczaj: using behavioural science to bridge the “say-do” gap
Q: What are common myths about behavioural science or incentives that you'd like to bust?
Two myths are that incentives alone can change behaviour and that nudges are simple recipes; in reality incentives can undermine social norms, and nudges are part of a broader, more complex toolkit that requires careful, context-aware design.
179 Dimitri Naczaj: using behavioural science to bridge the “say-do” gap
Q: Is behavioural science useful to businesses and are they using it effectively in circular economy solutions?
The guest argues that while there are universal principles (habits, social norms, convenience), real-world success requires context-specific applications, and many efforts fail because they assume behaviour will follow infrastructure and logistics alone without aligning with human factors.
179 Dimitri Naczaj: using behavioural science to bridge the “say-do” gap
Q: Can you tell us what behavioural science is in brief and why it's relevant to the circular economy?
Dimitri explains that behavioural science studies how people think and act, and how the bridge between those intentions and actions is critical for encouraging circular behaviours like repairing, reusing, and returning products. He notes universal principles but emphasises that recommendations must be contextual to each behaviour and population.
