  • A legendary podcast about a legend

I discovered Chasing Earhart in November and have listened to all seven years’ worth in four months.

The range of guests and research showcased is incredible. I’ve discovered a community of researchers, historians and enthusiasts that I didn’t know existed.

I’ve learned so much about Amelia’s life, legacy and the various ideas around the disappearance of her and her navigator Fred Noonan.

Thank you for keeping going - can’t wait to hear what’s next!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S3 Ep36: All of a Piece: A Conversation with Susan Butler
Q: What is your view of the Earhart files and government archives?
She notes that the government files are limited and that much of the lore predates more recent inquiries, implying that not all answers reside in official documents but in the synthesis of research and testimony.
S3 Ep36: All of a Piece: A Conversation with Susan Butler
Q: What does new interest and renewed funding say about Earhart's legacy today?
Butler suggests renewed attention underscores Earhart's lasting impact as a symbol and her pioneering role, with ongoing searches reflecting continued public fascination and the belief that new information could still emerge.
S3 Ep36: All of a Piece: A Conversation with Susan Butler
Q: Has the search for Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan become more about being right than about finding the truth?
Butler argues the motive remains the pursuit of truth, with many participants hoping to uncover tangible evidence, though the process is often entangled with hype and the allure of a conclusive discovery.
S3 Ep35: Lost: A Conversation with Rachel Hartigan
Q: What would Earhart think of today's technology and analysis applied to her story?
She would likely be curious and engaged with new technology, but Hartigan notes Earhart would remain self-aware enough not to be fully defined by our modern interpretations, recognizing the tension between myth-making and a lived, human life.
S3 Ep35: Lost: A Conversation with Rachel Hartigan
Q: Has the disappearance helped preserve Earhart's legacy or distorted it in any way?
Hartigan suggests the disappearance both preserves and distorts the legacy, because the mystery foregrounds her courage and agency while pushing audiences to project theories onto the gaps, potentially masking other aspects of her life.
