  • Great Central Valley Podcast!!

This is a great way to get the news in the morning. Great way to wake up and stay informed, like turning on the local news headlines to start your day but with less or skippable commercials and you always start at the beginning if you want no matter what time you get up 😊

  • Did a child make this?

This is the strangest Central Valley podcast I’ve ever heard.; every episode is dedicated to the most trivial marginalia imaginable. KVPR reporters themselves don’t seem to have any interest in the critical policy issues affecting Valley residents and as a result they’re satisfied with just lazily churning out cutesy human interest and business stories each day. This is why I listen to KQED instead of KVPR even though I live in Fresno.

  • Great addition to my morning news!

I’ve been a long time listener of the morning NPR news podcasts and always hoped for one that was specifically for Fresno and the valley. Having CVD is awesome, they do a great job.

Great questions and representation from CalMatters. Need more in-depth. Do another that lasts longer with other experts pro and con but not nonsense people that just like to hear their own voice. 👍

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

April 15: Pop Star Selena At The Center Of New Book By Fresno State Professor
Q: In your book, The Selena Reader, it's a collection of different writings. It looks at the impact of Selena from almost a scholarly lens. And there's a specific term that you use to call this afterlife of her stardom called the Selenidad. Can you explain what that is?
Selenidad refers to the generative afterlife of Selena's stardom, encompassing the celebrations, memorializations, and public remembrances that sustain her memory and influence long after her death.
April 13: Tensions Over Development Highlighted in Fresno Mayor’s Text Messages
Q: Could you tell us what you found within these texts?
We found text messages between the mayor and Fresno Unified School District trustees suggesting political pressure to oppose SATA, which appeared to influence how trustees approached a formal resolution and, in turn, the district's stance on the project.
April 14: U.S. Forest Service Closes Fresno Office And Many Others — What It Could Mean
Q: Could these facility closures complicate the ability to conduct ground research where it matters most?
Yes, depending on whether researchers are relocated or retained in place, and whether their work can continue through partnerships with universities or other federal facilities, which will influence ongoing data collection and collaboration.
April 6: California’s Ag Secretary Weighs In On Industry’s Massive Disruptions
Q: How are farmers navigating this time?
Farmers are adapting by reallocating shipments, strengthening cooperative networks, and managing higher shipping costs and insurance while exploring emerging markets to offset disruptions, though these adjustments add stress and risk to an already volatile industry.
April 10: As California Moves To Drill More, Some Oil Operators Face Big Trouble
Q: What is the core legal issue facing Ronald Engelberg and 25 Hill Properties right now?
Engelberg is facing five criminal and civil felonies related to hazardous waste disposal and other violations, with a recent appearance and ongoing hearings as the case progresses, reflecting a broader pattern of enforcement actions against the company since earlier regulatory actions.
