  • Great Way to Stay Tuned In

As someone who is not native to the Central Valley, this is a great way to stay connected and informed with what’s happening in the valley.

  • Great Central Valley Podcast!!

This is a great way to get the news in the morning. Great way to wake up and stay informed, like turning on the local news headlines to start your day but with less or skippable commercials and you always start at the beginning if you want no matter what time you get up 😊

  • Did a child make this?

This is the strangest Central Valley podcast I’ve ever heard.; every episode is dedicated to the most trivial marginalia imaginable. KVPR reporters themselves don’t seem to have any interest in the critical policy issues affecting Valley residents and as a result they’re satisfied with just lazily churning out cutesy human interest and business stories each day. This is why I listen to KQED instead of KVPR even though I live in Fresno.

  • Great addition to my morning news!

I’ve been a long time listener of the morning NPR news podcasts and always hoped for one that was specifically for Fresno and the valley. Having CVD is awesome, they do a great job.

  • Water report 1/30/25

Great questions and representation from CalMatters. Need more in-depth. Do another that lasts longer with other experts pro and con but not nonsense people that just like to hear their own voice. 👍

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

May 28: ‘Completely Ill-Equipped’ – AG Bonta Discusses Scathing Report On ICE Detention Facilities
Q: What are the implications for Kern County given the concentration of detention facilities there, and how does that relate to the farm worker movement's history?
The federal government chooses locations for these facilities, and Kern County has the highest concentration; this juxtaposition with the farm worker movement's legacy highlights deep contrasts and the broader context of justice and community impact in the Central Valley.
May 28: ‘Completely Ill-Equipped’ – AG Bonta Discusses Scathing Report On ICE Detention Facilities
Q: What is your response to critics who say the reports might be politically motivated and whether an independent oversight body should be used?
I am perplexed by that assertion; the law gives us authority to conduct these inspections and reveal findings, and accountability and oversight are fundamental when taxpayer dollars fund private contractors delivering essential services.
May 26: Former Bulldog Basketball Player Shares Lessons From The Bench
Q: What was it like working under Jerry Tarkanian, and what did you take away from that experience?
He describes Tarkanian as a controversial yet influential figure who believed in people and gave opportunities to players who weren't stars, shaping his own philosophy of coaching and team-building.
May 26: Former Bulldog Basketball Player Shares Lessons From The Bench
Q: So you were really impressed with the program here, what did you learn from the environment and the coach?
The guest explains that the coach valued people and potential, not just stars, and that his guidance helped him redefine his role to contribute to the team and later to coaching, emphasizing that everyone has a place and can help the team succeed.
May 18: A Local Newspaper Chain Has Adopted A.I. For Reporting. What Does It Mean For Readers?
Q: How have reporters and unions responded to this tool?
Responses have ranged from alarm and concern about attribution and bylines to organized actions by unions, including withholding bylines on AI-generated or AI-assisted pieces until guardrails and proper labeling are established.
