  • That being notwithstanding

I’d never heard someone say “that being notwithstanding” before, but now I can’t get enough of this bizarre phrase.

  • Mediocre show that could be great

Shivam is likeable, but he is a bad interviewer. His questions are often boring and basic, leading to a lot of interviews being “here is my life story before Magic” which just isn’t interesting most of the time. I do not care where someone went to college or their mundane job before Magic. Often when the guest has finally said something interesting about our game he interrupts for a rant, sometimes even a recycled rant. Mediocre show, but it could be great.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Casual Magic Episode 338 - Henry GIlbert
Q: What do you think about Universes Beyond and crossovers like Lord of the Rings or Final Fantasy?
Universes Beyond is a double-edged sword: it attracts new players who love the licenses, but it also raises balance and thematic questions for core players. When done well, like with Final Fantasy, it can deepen engagement and respect source material.
Casual Magic Episode 338 - Henry GIlbert
Q: How did you first get into Magic, and what kept you engaged over the years?
My husband was big into Magic first, and I gradually got pulled in through Marvel and other universes beyond, plus the community and the accessibility of Arena helped me learn.
Casual Magic Episode 334 - Nick Floyd
Q: But what caused you to create Dandan or Forgetful Fish, how and why?
Nick explains the genesis of Dandan around Memory Lapse and the idea of using a deck to attack with a mirrored library, leading to the first Dandan concepts and later expansions into other variants.
Casual Magic Episode 334 - Nick Floyd
Q: When did you start playing?
Nick replies that he started in 1994 during the early sets like The Dark and Fallen Empires, with memories of those first experiences and the community around it.
Casual Magic Episode 333 - Jean-Emmanuel Depraz
Q: How did you first get into Magic and what was your path to the Pro Tour?
I started playing against my cousin in Paris at a young age, evolved through local Paris scenes, and gradually built up to Grand Prix and PTQs, leading to my Pro Tour debut years later and, eventually, multiple top finishes.
