  • Please keep video content off of the podcast feed

I enjoy Joey’s short form videos, and I watch them on youtube, but they shouldn’t be on the main podcast feed.

Also, it seems there has only been one “real” episode in months, and that one had a heavy visual component.

People listen to podcasts while they do other things like commuting or doing chores, where there’s no way to look at charts.

It’s cool if the guys are vacationing or dealing with real life, but usually hiatuses are announced 🤷🏻‍♀️

Looking forward to return of the podcast, tha... more

  • The show has changed

A few things have slowly started to change about this show and I feel like it took a quality hit.

The show used to release on Fridays, but then switched to Mondays with no announcement. Not that big of a deal, but a little blurb on an upcoming scrapple change would have been nice.

Dana and Matt were gone for an extended time. Dana still seems to be gone. I don’t need to know anyone personal schedule and they owe me nothing, but again, it would just be nice to hear what’s going on with the st... more

  • Commander 300-400

Love the dad jokes, I don’t love the funny name callouts. I’d be mortified and upset if I paid money to support them and they did that to me. The content is thoughtful and interesting and I aspire to build and play like they do. The Command Zone YouTube and podcast is like a 100 or 200 level college class while EDHRec is 300-400 level. They work with the understanding that you have a very proficient knowledge of commander, the frequently seen cards and commanders. It also ages better and is a pl... more

  • Great work, but spotty opinions.

I’ve listened to Dana, Matt, and Joey for close to 3 years now, and the work they put into the show is obvious. The amount of stats they track on their own time is phenomenal. And there are times they make me laugh while I’m at work listening to the podcast. There are times where episodes do feel forced as if they don’t have other ideas.. but the content must keep rolling to pay bills. So I get it.

My biggest gripe is the political stuff that gets snuck in every other episode, and for a while ... more

  • Funny and awesome and educational

I find this podcast awesome because of how much they talk about one of my favorite games. I also love dad jokes. 83 squirrels out of 53 stars

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Reacting to Your HOT TAKES | EDHRECast 405
Q: Should Sol Ring be considered a game changer, or should it be banned/handled differently?
The hosts recognize its power and iconic status, leaning toward treating it as a game changer but disagree on the best governance (ban or leave as is) due to potential wide impact on deck diversity and game dynamics.
Will Final Fantasy Take Over Commander? | EDHRECast 369
Q: What game is your favorite and why?
Dana enjoys Final Fantasy VII due to the depth of gameplay and side quests, while Matt fondly remembers Final Fantasy VIII for its characters.
Game Changers & Brackets ft. Gavin Verhey | EDHRECast 354 | Magic the Gathering | Commander
Q: Do you think with the Game Changer list, you're gonna have cards that are gonna be added to give the Game Changer list upon release?
I would be pretty surprised if anything we put directly on the Game Changer's list because we're trying to just not make cards in that category. We're trying to avoid over-designing game-changing cards.
Game Changers & Brackets ft. Gavin Verhey | EDHRECast 354 | Magic the Gathering | Commander
Q: Gavin, can you just take us through real quick what happened and what exactly was this announcement that happened a couple of days ago?
The announcement was about creating a matchmaking system for Commander that categorizes decks into brackets based on their power levels and the presence of game-changing cards.
Let's Rank Mana Rocks! | EDHRECast 297
Q: What does S tier mean for mana rocks?
It's a catch-all for the best of the best, cards that should nearly always be included in your decks.
