  • Love it!

I live in New Hampshire, but make several trips down to the Outer Banks to fish. This program is informative and entertaining, and I also found out about a couple of the local. Shops, restaurants, etc.. when I’m not on the Outer Banks it’s just great to listen to on my way to work and keeps my brain on the beach. Cheers.

  • Shut Up Justin

Cpt Marty is a local treasure. Great stories and wonderful sense of humor. But Justin and his phony radio voice just grates your eardrums and patience. Tries being folksy and sounds hokey instead. Bring back Jody from the radio days!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Capt. Marty's Other Side of Fishing, Episode 17
Q: How long has the King family owned the fishing center?
They entered into a long-term lease with the National Park Service in 2018, establishing a public-private partnership that allowed a major building upgrade and the addition of a full-service marina.
Capt. Marty's Other Side of Fishing Show, Episode 13
Q: What should a first-time charter booker know before choosing a boat?
Book through major marinas with vetted boats, verify the captain and mate, and talk to the crew to ensure a good fit; avoid judging by speed alone as reputation matters more.
Capt. Marty's Other Side of Fishing Show, Episode 14
Q: What makes headboats a valuable training ground for young people?
They teach knots, customer service, how to earn tips, navigation, and how to log sea time, creating a strong foundation for any future fishing career.
Fishing Report 4-3
Q: From Powhatan or Pohatn? Powhatn, I think is right. Is there any place I could recommend between Ramp 55 and the Pole Road for Eric to fish this weekend?
Marty consulted Kara Eakes, who advised a southern stretch past Ramp 55 where the beach gradually bends toward the inlet, specifically noting the bar that forms near the beach as a good target, with soft plastic baits such as scented Z-Man grubs as effective options.
Capt. Marty Story: Starting Out On The OBX, Page 1
Q: Captain, I got a question for you.
He explains that the early days involved paying dues, learning on headboats, and proving oneself through hard work, long hours, and adapting to new waters and crews before eventually finding a home on the Outer Banks.
