  • People over profits

Financial capitalism is an even more sinister form of capitalism than industrial capitalism because at least with industrial capitalism we sometimes got quality products. Financial capitalism is built purely on speculation and selling our children’s future.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

4 anti-hype anti-AI compounders, with Chloe Stokes and James Rodda
Q: Why ING as a top anti-hype compounder and how does AI factor into the thesis?
ING is valued at about 10x earnings with the potential for cost reductions through AI and automation, which could preserve margins and support continued fee income growth; the bank's cost discipline and share buybacks add to the appealing yield, making it a durable compounder even in an AI-intensive environment.
5 companies quietly taking a cut of your everyday life
Q: What makes Chime Financial compelling as a toll booth stock in the US banking landscape?
Chime is seen as a market leader with a large, growing customer base and low incremental costs, implying potential for a multiple expansion as it scales profitability.

Q: Is Wise a buy or a sell given the competitive landscape and growth prospects?
The hosts lean toward Wise as a buy given its cost discipline, regulatory moat, and potential for continued growth, though some caution is noted about competition from Revolut and the need for ongoing efficiency.
2 fundies analyse each other's best ideas (+ 2 HUGE sells)
Q: Why is WiseTech considered a high-conviction sell, and what would need to change for its valuation to justify itself?
WiseTech faces structural risk from a transition to consumption-based revenue in an AI-enabled environment, with major customers like DSV pressuring pricing and a growing risk of continued margin compression, which could justify a lower multiple rather than any near-term upside.
2 fundies analyse each other's best ideas (+ 2 HUGE sells)
Q: What makes Channel Infrastructure appealing as a New Zealand asset, and how does it compare to the Australian options?
Channel Infrastructure offers a monopoly-like position in NZ with high utilisation and a government contract boosting earnings; while it's strong, Andrew argues that, relative to a cheaper Australian rival, the growth runway and multiple compression favor the latter despite the defensive characteristics.
