As a BBC in my thirties I wish I had something like this to listen to when I was younger. I wish I had tuned in during lockdown! Thank you Viv !
Thank you so much for creating this! I am a Chinese American in the UK and so grateful to hear the voices and stories of BESEA people as I figure out how to be a Chinese person here. Please keep creating!!
I’ve just started listening from ep.1 of the unknown season & I love that the podcast documents its growth. Viv is relatable and hilarious. I put an episode on while I drove my 13yo to a lesson - he listened and engaged and was even motivated to try harder with speaking the little bits of Cantonese he remembers after hearing about HK Cha Chan Teng. Next on my agenda is to have my 11yo passively listen to it, and I also plan to have it playing continuously in the waiting area when I go back to he... more
Lovely to hear you growing each time I hear a new episode and especially loved your episodes with your mum and sisters 💛
Intelligent, insightful and so damn funny. Thank you for bringing me a bit of “home” every time I listen.
I enjoy listening to the words that Viv says, and the stories that she tells. It makes me feel connected to the world around me.
As a BBC myself, Viv’s podcast was one of my best finds during lockdown. It is always so interesting to listen to someone talk about their experiences as a minority in the UK, but it was so refreshing to be able to relate! The British-Chinese community has always been so painfully marginalised in the UK, but Viv’s podcast has been so inspiring and I can only thank her for all the work she’s been doing for the benefit of our silenced community. Keep it up, Viv! We love your work!!
hello Vivian,thank you
for your podcast. subscribed a yr ago but finally got time to listen. Can’t find ur email address though lol, I am also working in marketing function. Nice to meet u.
Found Viv during lockdown and let me just say, thank god I did.
Never in my life have I felt more proud about my ethnicity. As a fellow BBC, there’s nothing more comforting than knowing that you’re not alone and through these podcasts, have never been able to relate, laugh, (happy) cry and smile as much about anything. Genuinely feel like I’ve made a friend through just listening to Viv!
LISTEN, I guarantee you’ll love it x
This is amazing. I’ve listened to every single one of your pods. The ones with your sisters I have listened multiple times. I am also a BBC and it’s nice how I can listen to your pod and I can relate to all your topics. Thank you for finding the time to share your experiences❤️
Listening to Viv’s podcast is like talking to family. As a fellow BBC, so many of the things she discusses hit home, it’s a comforting listen and super relatable. You’re ace Viv! - Winnie (aka diamondcanopy)
Being a British Born is a unique experience, Viv has made us feel like we have a home, a community and has given us a voice. Also recommend for none Chinese!
I heard of this podcast through Anna Saccone and it’s the East Asian representation I never knew I needed. As a Hakka BBC, it’s been comforting, entertaining and a bit creepy how relatable Viv’s stories are. To name a few - turnip cake (yum), having do a show & tell about CNY at school (lol why) and the perils of Asian flush (cringe)! Since listening to this podcast, I genuinely feel more proud to be Asian so thank you Viv!
Such a refreshing, relatable and humorous podcast made even better by Viv’s insights and reflections on life as a British born Chinese! Would highly recommend!
I really appreciate the opinions and topic of your podcast. Especially the last one, about anti-racism, thanks for your behaviour that make this current terrible world be better and let myself realise one thing which you've done is not nothing. If that is the right direction, even tiny, just do it. Thanks for your sharing. Btw, who is the stupid guy calling you to interrupt the sharing, he's ridiculous.
