  • More than a building podcast

I am not a builder or architect, but I love this podcast. It has much more meaning beyond construction and design and I always walk away with a new perspective! Relevant to anyone interested in living a better life.

  • Good find

It’s a relief to find a US based architecture focused podcast. There are many podcasts focused on design and related fields, but I love to hear architecture based conversation. And Austin is great! I’ll be listening for a long time!

  • Building enduring communities! Great podcast.

I’ve been following Austin on LinkedIn for sometime and and have just listened to a couple episodes of his podcasts so far. The episode with Moses Kagan was amazing! It was fun yo listen to two guys who build and invest for the long term and the tactics they covered are priceless.

  • Walking the talk

Building Culture does a great job of taking the core principles of good town and neighborhood planning and then demonstrating how to actually execute. Well worth the listen.

Talking Points

#48 Mike Hathorne: The Great Housing Reversal - It's not a housing shortage, but a mismatch.
Q: What exactly is the reversal that you describe in your book?
The reversal is about understanding housing types and how they match or mismatch with the dominant household types today, especially the rise of one- and two-person households, which necessitates smaller, more walkable, mixed-use, life-centered neighborhoods.
#46 Jan Sramek: California Forever - Building the Next Great American City
Q: What inspired Jan Sramek's vision?
Sramek's vision is shaped by his experiences growing up in the Czech Republic, observing urban blight, and the challenges of modern urban living in America.
#46 Jan Sramek: California Forever - Building the Next Great American City
Q: What is California Forever?
California Forever is a project aimed at building a new city in Solano County with advanced manufacturing, a shipyard, and vibrant walkable neighborhoods.
#42 Charles Duff: North Atlantic Cities - The Forgotten Blueprint for the Future
Q: What is the North Atlantic way of building?
It involves medium density living where people can live in spacious homes while also having access to urban amenities and public transportation without the extremes of high-density living like in Paris or low-density sprawl like in Houston.
#42 Charles Duff: North Atlantic Cities - The Forgotten Blueprint for the Future
Q: Your book, North Atlantic Cities. Why should people read it? What is relevant about these cities today?
My book tells the story of a family of cities along the North Atlantic that are built in similar ways, which can provide time-tested solutions to issues like climate change.
