  • Growing Company

My wife and I started our own pest control company in 2018. To say navigating and scaling on your own is arduous, is an understatement! Eric and Jake make growing it easier by sharing, mentoring, teaching and the list goes on. These episodes are addictive and leave you wanting to know more. We’re very thankful to you guys for creating this for our industry.

  • Gold Mine!

I have been a part of the Bug Bux Facebook page for about a year now, I posted a couple months back asking for resources to help me get to the next level and was pointed towards this podcast.

This is a literal gold mine for PCO’s at all stages of the journey upward (if growth is your thing), and I’m so thankful for this and the guys who have put so much value into a free resource for the industry.

Started at episode 1 a few days ago and I’m not stopping until I’m current!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Real Reason Your Employees Quit (And How to Build a Team That Stays) | EP 236
Q: How do you balance structure with keeping the 'magic sauce' that makes people want to stay?
reinvest in soft stuff like team-building and contribution to causes, while maintaining solid metrics and SOPs; the combination keeps culture vibrant.
The Real Reason Your Employees Quit (And How to Build a Team That Stays) | EP 236
Q: What do you recommend for listeners who want to get to know their people and align interests?
Implement annual PDPs, have conversations about goals, and create clear pathways so employees can see how to grow within the company.
Why Your Pest Control Supplier Should Be a Partner, Not a Vendor | EP 219
Q: What questions should a new pest controller ask when evaluating a distributor to ensure they are choosing a partner, not just a vendor?
Look for a distributor who will answer the phone and be available beyond business hours, who treats you as a partner, and who has experience in pest control to guide regulatory and operational steps. Also consider added value like training, problem solving, and the ability to customize programs (e.g., private labeling) to help grow retention and brand presence.
The Science Behind Wasp Control (And Why It Matters) | EP 233
Q: How is my treatment approach going to be different based on the species?
Different wasp species require you to identify the species, understand their nesting habits and environments, and tailor the approach accordingly. Some nests are external and visible, while others are hidden in crevices, and strategies vary from using aerosols with straw attachments to choosing products with residual effects.
Why Pest Control Marketing Is Broken (and What Actually Works) | EP 223
Q: How do you view social media in pest control marketing and what has worked or not?
The hosts discuss that generic pest posts rarely engage; instead, entertaining and tangentially related content (like vehicle-wrapping processes) tends to perform better, and there is emphasis on plan-driven content rather than ad-hoc posting.
