  • Great stories

Brilliant stories, so honest and real and host is empathetic. Disappointing though to hear Megan of Birth Ed speak so flippantly about miscarriage and ectopic as someone who has been through it after IVF, it’s devastating. But I guess that’s the privilege of being able to get pregnant when you plan to and not facing infertility.

Emma: Second Birth, NHS Home Birth After Caesarean (HBAC), VBAC, Water Birth, Physiological Birth
Q: What was the turning point in deciding to attempt a home birth, and how did you handle pushback?
She witnessed the difference in recovery between her first and second experiences and was determined to create a home environment with the support of a doula and informed by birth rights resources, even when faced with strong professional cautions.
Emma: Second Birth, NHS Home Birth After Caesarean (HBAC), VBAC, Water Birth, Physiological Birth
Q: How did you manage the rest of the pregnancy and the care you received after your first birth?
She had continuity with a community midwife, involved a doula, and prepared for a home birth despite being considered high risk due to the prior C-section. She negotiated access to home birth against initial recommendations.
Emma: Second Birth, NHS Home Birth After Caesarean (HBAC), VBAC, Water Birth, Physiological Birth
Q: So coming out of your first experience, what were your hopes for the second birth, and what did you want to do differently?
Emma was inspired by a friend's hospital birth and decided to pursue home birth, hiring a doula, and using hypnobirthing to prepare. She aimed for continuity of care and to avoid hospital-based birth unless necessary, exercising her right to choose where she gives birth.
Kailey: Third Birth, Birth Before Arrival (BBA), Freebirth at Home, Precipitous Labour, 42+4 Pregnancy & NHS Experience
Q: What is the most important piece of advice you would give other women in similar situations?
Always advocate for yourself and your informed consent; if you don't feel comfortable with a proposed intervention, speak up and seek clarification, even in the heat of labor.
Kailey: Third Birth, Birth Before Arrival (BBA), Freebirth at Home, Precipitous Labour, 42+4 Pregnancy & NHS Experience
Q: What influenced your decision to pursue a home birth on your terms, despite NHS pressures?
My previous births felt disrupted and patronized, so I aimed for a birth that respected my instincts and kept me in control, with a trusted community midwife to support my plan.
