Such a fun and easy to listen to podcast! I had been looking for a Bollywood podcast for a while and when I found Bollywood is for lovers I was so blown away! I love the insight and perspective that Matt and Erin bring to their discussion - I also love the canadian references! Thank you for being my consistent commuter companions!!
Found this podcast by accident and loving it. Hosts have great chemistry which helps a lot. Their takes on movies which I have seen as an Indian is refreshingly different and extremely entertaining. This will be one of my regular listenings going forward.
Also great that I can dive into the 200+ episode library having come late to this party. I also agree with the hosts that 60s and 70s were the most entertaining periods of Indian cinema.
Erin, Matt, sorry but you got it wrong on motivations ... more
always pleasant to listen to
Hi Erin and Matt,
I bought an iPhone just to write you a review! Just kidding, but I’ve meaning to write to you for so long really. I randomly discovered your podcast almost a year ago and it quickly became my comfort podcast. The comfort I found in two cinephiles talking about Bollywood at length in my ear was something I never thought I needed. I eagerly wait for your episodes now that I have binge listened almost all of them. I follow your recommendations to watch movies for the next episode,... more
Just wanted to pop up back in here again to say how thankful and appreciative I am of you guys for not only mentioning the farmers’ protest on your podcast but also showing your support for them. Not even Indian podcasters or celebs have done that, which is a real shame. Truly won over my heart even more! I had already submitted my review below some time ago, and I just put on episode 108 “Underpants Captain”, and felt really compelled to say thank you. Thank you! You guys are truly awesome and ... more
I grew up in India in the ‘90s - loving & living Bollywood. When I moved out of the country, I also stepped out of my bubble spending time in different countries & cultures. Today, I still ardently love bollywood but when I revisit the films I watched growing up, they usually break my heart. They are often racist and misogynistic, and almost always causally sexist. Listening to you guys with your outsider’s perspective has been such a gift. The positivity you two bring to your discussions has he... more
Dear creators of "Bollywood is For Lovers":
Thank you for your recent podcast episode titled "Bachchan ‘79 - '81".
It was excellent, in my view, but for one minor quibble.
It is more likely than not (given the merit in editing creative works of art like this podcast episode), some information about "Kaala Patthar" was chosen by you creators to be excluded.
However, do consider that "Kaala Patthar" was a stunning work of genius because Mr. Yash Chopra [along with that film's writers] managed ... more
My friend Chris introduced me to this podcast out of our own YEG and I love it. I love how the two of you have such a passion for Bollywood! I am being reminded of lots of movies I have watched but forgotten. And I am amazed at your knowledge of Indian movies! Love how you both get the names and pronunciations right. I am going to watch Kaala Pathar tonight. Keep up the great work.
Hey,
Huge fan of what you guys do; as an NRI, it’s really great hearing a nuanced and unexoticized take on a part of South Asian culture people don’t really know much about. I think it would be really cool if y’all reviewed Guide (1965), Arth, or even a Guru Dutt masterwork trilogy (Pyassa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam). In terms of Anil Kapoor I think Parinda would be really great (even if it is 1989 which is practically 90s), it’s what lead to Satya and ultimately the crime Bollywo... more
pleaaaaaaaase review oye lucky lucky oye its one of my favorite films (and imo dibakar banerjees best) and no one talks about it!! also u guys do a rly, rly good job - never stop!!
A good Bollywood podcast with speakers Erin and Matt, who are a non desi couple and have a great NRI take on our very Bollywood cinema. Enjoy listening to their views and banter which is as insightful as it is filled with love and admiration for Hindi cinema. A good companion for my ears on the way to work.
I’m Indian who lived in Australia and now moved to Canada. That’s part of the reason why I didn’t have a lot of general appreciation for Indian cinema until I found this podcast. Your knowledge of films is fascinating and you guys seem to know more about Indian cinema than most Indians including myself. I love your discussions, various themes that you come up with for episodes, Matt’s super-honesty and the banter between the two of you. You guys make my daily commutes much easier to handle! You guys are just a delight to listen to. I’m an Indian Canadian obsessed with Bollywood and listening to your podcast has made me revisit movies I’d forgotten about and also led me to watch some that I overlooked! I appreciate the research that you put into each episode and also appreciate you guys making an effort to pronounce things properly - but don’t sweat about that too much!
It’s almost more fun listening to you guys talk about movies you didn’t like, lol! And finally, I wanna say that ... more
What a brilliant podcast!!! This podcast provides a good insight for anyone who may be new to Bollywood. As a British Indian I have been watching Bollywood movies for most of my childhood this reminds me of just how ridiculous they can be with stories lines which make no sense what so ever!! But that’s Bollywood anything goes!!! The podcast allows me to keep up with what’s new as I really don’t watch many Bollywood movies anymore. Always look forward to new episodes!! 😃😃
I have been watching bollywood for about half of my life, but had been in a rut for a little while now. After listening to about half of your podcast episodes, I now have a long list of movies I will watch, and have started watching ones I hadn't seen since listening to you guys. You're always informative and well versed about all of the material you talk about and cover a wide range of genres that I never knew about within bollywood. Since I've been listening to you guys everyday for over a mon... more
