The Board Game Design Lab was created for one purpose: to help you design great games people love. To accomplish that goal, this podcast interviews designers, publishers, and board game insiders on specific topics related to game design. I don’t waste time talking about recently played games or pop culture. Instead, the show does a deep dive into subjects that I hope you’ll find extremely valuable... more

I started listening in 2023 and found each episode so relevant to my interests that I listened to every show from when Gabe Barrett started in 2016. Gabe creates shows with excellent and relevant topics on board game design and has had interviews with many key people in the industry. There is so much great material on board game design in this show that Gabe has even compiled it all into a book and other design aids. I was so glad to see Gabe resume the show in 2023 after a one year break in whi... more
The show is big enough that it gets a lot of great guests. However, the host is a religious cult member and his BGDL group attracts similar people. They frequently are guests on the podcast and they have little to offer practically.
I’m a late comer to board game design, and to this podcast, but I’ve immersed myself in both, and this podcast has been a phenomenal help!!I haven’t even touched the numerous streaming options on tv because I have this to listen to while I stay focused on “work”. Great job Gabe!
It’s been so fun watching Gabe grow over the years, and often he has more expertise and interesting things to say about the topics than the experts themselves! Keep up the great work and thank you for all you do for the design community.
Fair to say this is the single podcast with the most interview with game designers. If you are seeking to learn from the masters, this is probably the one to go with. Most other podcasts are about playing games, rather than designing them
