  • Disappointed

I’ve listened to every episode of this podcast and I’m so disappointed. The host don’t seem to A. Like the show B. Understand the genre C. Have knowledge or background about the book the show was adapted from D. Have guests (with a few exceptions) that understand the show. Their reviews miss important points from the show and they insert issues of colorism into the show a lot as if they take issue with casting choices and how characters are depicted based on skin tone. I wanted to love this podc... more

  • Splitting hairs

One of the hosts takes this too seriously. Now she can’t tell the difference between biracial people (Leti) and white people? Way too critical in the last 3 or so episodes. She should just write her own show or quit watching for her own mental health. It’s a bit unsettling how hard she’s taking this.

  • Yes to black commentary!

I listened to every podcast that Brittany and Brooke recorded on Lovecraft Country. The interviews were awesome, namely Courtney Vance. I loved how enthusiastic he was with how he talked about the show, and how he related things from his perspective growing up in Mississippi. The hosts however, hold a very critical tone that depreciates the fact that this show is not meant to give us the predictability that I think they want. Episode 9 was meant to shock and I truly believe it was meant to educa... more

  • Ehh...

I think they need to stop thinking with a 2020 mindset, especially since they’re reviewing a show that’s based in the 1950’s. LGBTQ issues were not viewed the same then as it is now. The hosts have a clear disdain for the show. I get criticism but they literally overanalyze and complain about every little thing about the show. I hope that they will end the podcast after the season finale because why keep watching if it’s clear that you’re not fans? I know that they’re screenwriters but for them ... more

  • When being too woke goes wrong

The podcast would be better served if the hosts analyzed and appreciated the show for what it is instead of constantly complaining that the storyline and characters aren’t adhering to our 21st century mores. The show is set in the 1950s; it’s totally unrealistic to expect that the show’s characters would have the sensitivity around LGBT issues that we have today. And if we’re honest, one could argue that homophobia and transphobia are still rampant among the Black community. The show’s writers/c... more

  • Too critical about the queer storylines but I love it

You all are definitely overthinking the Christina/Christine/transphobia pushback (huh?) and the Tic/Montrose homophobia. We black people are not perfect so I see nothing wrong with showing that disgusting side of Tic, especially when many still talk like that today. It’s not like it’s the main storyline. It’s odd that you say this is SUPPOSED to be about reimagining black people in these white spaces. The story is what the creators/writers want it to be, not what you expected it to be.

  • Exactly what I've been looking for!

Sharp, personal and in-depth analysis of Lovecraft Country from black women, and with amazing guests from the JUMP! I mean honestly: Courtney B. Vance, Tony Goldwyn AND director Victoria Mahoney already?!

Like a cold, sweet drink that hits the spot, this is just what I was looking for as a companion to HBO's official podcast. The interview with Victoria Mahoney especially was so enlightening! Much appreciated...
