Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

New Research on Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) with Dr. Codi Peterson and Megan Mbengue
Q: What is CHS and how does it present in the ED?
CHS is a complex, multi-phase condition characterized by cycles of nausea and vomiting in heavy cannabis users, with prodromal GI symptoms and morning onset; doctors should consider prodromal symptoms alongside hyperemetic episodes to improve diagnosis.
Beyond Caffeine: The Hidden Chemistry of Coffee with Dr. Steven Helschien (Dr. Coffee)
Q: Is there evidence that decaf coffee still provides health benefits like regular coffee, or does decaf negate those benefits?
Decaf still contains antioxidants and offers health benefits, though caffeine content is much lower; processing methods (like Swiss water) can affect acidity and other compounds, but many benefits persist albeit to a lesser degree.
Schedule 3, Hemp Bans, and Cannabis Law with Thomas Howard
Q: Do you think it's going to ever be practical, or maybe with Schedule 3, that cannabis could be covered under any health insurance programs?
We might be able to get marijuana in a regulated stream of commerce for Schedule 3, but it will require legislation and could take many years.
Schedule 3, Hemp Bans, and Cannabis Law with Thomas Howard
Q: What states do you think have kind of rolled it out in a good way versus a bad way, whether it's the states that you've worked with or not?
There are states that seem seamless for applications, but it often benefits those with cash, and many have slow rollouts that create issues.
The Untapped World of Acidic Cannabinoids with Dr. Bid
Q: What sparked your interest in acidic cannabinoids?
Dr. Bid explains that he started doing research on acidic cannabinoids due to their unique biosynthesis and therapeutic potential, which has only recently become a focus in cannabis research.
