After 20 years behind the board, mixing and producing artists as varied as Loverboy, 54-40, Sloan and Marilyn Manson, Dave "Rave" Ogilvie was handed the keys to his very own CanCon car. The result was Jakalope: an ambient-ly industrial pop band front... more

As a Canadian living in the US I am continually discovering that vast swaths of the soundtrack to my youth were only big in Canada. Even after over a decade here. Would love an episode on Hot Hot Heat, which may have been a little big outside of Canada, but deserve more love!
I've listened to quite a few back episodes and this podcast is really entertaining. As a GenX who has grown up with all of the music they talk about, it's funny to hear their (much younger) perspectives on some of the music I loved. The Moist episode in particular was funny just because I felt so offended by their views on a band I saw probably 3 or 4 times back in the day. But listening to their comments, I realized that yeah, sometimes music doesn't age well. Anyways, great podcast and I'll ke... more
Love this show! It’s helping me rediscover songs I love that I had totally forgotten about.
Also, I never realized how many artists I listened to growing up were Canadian!
It really makes me appreciate how effective the CanCon system was. Wish we could find a way to recreate this today and promote great Canadian acts 🇨🇦🇨🇦
This is the best current podcast about Canadian music. It’s fun, well-structured, with lots of callbacks, and a strong conceit (is it CanCon?) that keeps everything on track. Solid production, great hosts, and lots of audience interaction - it has it all.

A lively, two-host show that investigates Canadian music acts and the CanCon era with a nostalgic yet critical lens. Episodes fuse personal anecdotes, industry context, and playful banter as Mackenzie Cameron and Laura Stanley explore why certain artists are “big in Canada” while maintaining a broader conversation about national content rules, cultural identity, and the evolving Canadian music scene. The format often blends historical context, rankings, and candid reflections on artists, eras, and industry figures, making it appealing to listeners who enjoy thoughtful pop culture commentary, deep Canadian music cuts, and witty host chemistry. A notable strength is the clear, culture-nerd angle on CanCon, producing insightful discussions tha... more
