Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S27 - Ep 5 - IT: Welcome to Derry - Editing the Pilot
Q: Tell us how this sequence was brought together editorially and what you had to work with.
We designed the shoot around a volume wall to allow the car sequence to be performed by five actors, including three minors, and used previsualization and on-set cutting to maintain rhythm, then rebuilt the audio bed in post to ensure the sequence felt driving and cohesive.
S27 - Ep 4 - FBI - Stunts
Q: What can you tell us as far as set up for the first clip?
The team staged a three-location sequence beginning at a gas station, moving to inside a truck for a second-unit fight, and finishing on a road setup at Jones Beach, with careful timing and safety measures to execute a multi-beat sequence.
S27 - Ep 3 - One Piece - Film Editing
Q: How did you communicate complex visual effects with the rest of the team during the cut?
We relied on references from the manga, storyboards, and previs, then used editor-driven placeholders and temp sounds to align departments early, which helped shape timing and pacing before final effects.
S27 - Ep 3 - One Piece - Film Editing
Q: Eric, how did you approach the opening battle sequence to balance the manga aesthetic with live-action realism?
We started with a flexible approach, testing several openings and ultimately landing on a violent, visually rhythmic sequence that still felt grounded in reality, using timing and camera work to guide the audience through the action.
S27 - Ep 1 - Pretty Lethal - Directing
Q: How did you approach translating ballet into action and what was the role of Ballet-Fu in the choreography?
She describes hiring prima ballerinas, creating a glossary of ballet moves to convert into fight moves, and developing a language that allows the ballet world to inform every fight sequence, with Ballet-Fu peaking during the climactic bar fight.
