  • Up to date brewing tips for beginners to expert’s

Thank you - I’m currently studying for the IBD Diploma in brewing which is a great course, whilst also experimenting with new recipes on my Braumeister. I also sell real ales in traditional firkins to local pubs as I have a beer licence in the UK. Great show - very interesting guests.

Thanks Brad - Great show has kept me in touch with brewing inspiration over the past few years as I try to develop my own nano brewery. Every episode i learn something and take away tips large and small. Each episode makes me think and consider how I can become a better brewer. Thanks from Australia - Beagle Brewing Co.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Advanced Dry Hop Techniques with Michael Tonsmeire – BeerSmith Podcast #344
Q: What role do yeast strains play in hazy IPAs and how do you choose them?
Yeast selection influences haze via mannoproteins and fermentation performance; specific strains like London Three/Imperial Juice variants and Conan-type strains are used to balance haze with flavor and attenuation while maintaining stability.
Advanced Dry Hop Techniques with Michael Tonsmeire – BeerSmith Podcast #344
Q: What steps do you take to reduce oxidation when dry hopping?
Purging hop dosers with CO2, repeated cycles to push out oxygen, and keeping the system sealed to minimize exposure, plus using low-oxygen transfer practices and careful sanitation.
Advanced Dry Hop Techniques with Michael Tonsmeire – BeerSmith Podcast #344
Q: Why have some of these new hopping techniques become so important when we're talking about modern IPAs?
They allow brewers to achieve juicy, bright aromas and preserved hop character without overwhelming bitterness or grassy notes, by using a combination of traditional hops and advanced hop products to fine-tune aroma and mouthfeel.
Craft Beer and Schlafly Beer with Jared Williamson – BeerSmith Podcast #339
Q: You mentioned that we've had a lot of people actually on the show talking about non-alcoholic beer and some of the different methods. Are you using some of these new yeasts that are modified to run at a very low alcohol level?
No, we are using our house American ale strain for the IPA and English ale strain for the pale ale, adjusting the mash profile instead.
Craft Beer and Schlafly Beer with Jared Williamson – BeerSmith Podcast #339
Q: Can you start out by telling us, how did you get into brewing and eventually become the head brewer at Schlafly?
Jared shares his transition from a fine arts major to brewing at New Albanian and ultimately joining Schlafly after meeting his wife there.
