  • A Great Listen

This is a fantastic podcast for new flower farmers, those just starting out or home growers thinking about setting up a cutting patch. Twice a week Lydia articulately runs us through ‘the highs and lows’ of her flower farming journey in a honest and sincere manner. Her determination to create a flourishing flower farming business is admirable. As a fellow flower farmer myself I have encountered many of the challenges that she has and I wish her every success in her flower farming journey.

  • Fabulous, honest and informative

I am a full on true crime junkie however I stumbled across this podcast by accident and I am absolutely thrilled that I did. Utterly raw and honest about the struggles with cut flower growing, personal belief and confidence. Feel so happy to be going on the authors journey with her. Highly recommended to anyone and you don’t have to be even interested in cut flowers as it’s so lovely to just hear someone’s journey into starting something new. Think what I am trying to say is that this podcast is... more

Why I Plant Sweet Peas in Toilet Rolls (And Some Other Seed Starting Techniques) & Annuals I'm Growing in 2026
Q: What plants do you put together in a bed to maximize space and performance?
It depends on whether you're turning beds, but the key ideas are to mix plants of similar height and similar soil/light needs to prevent overcrowding and staking conflicts, and to consider interplanting annuals with perennials or foliage to maximize space and year-round interest.
Why I Plant Sweet Peas in Toilet Rolls (And Some Other Seed Starting Techniques) & Annuals I'm Growing in 2026
Q: Which soil blocker do you use, and what size do you recommend for beginners?
I use a Ladbrokes Soil Blockers Micro 20, which is the smallest model, but I've realized I may need a bigger size to give seedlings more soil and reduce transplant shock, so I'd recommend starting with a larger size if possible and upgrading as you gain experience.
My First Tulip Disaster, How Not To Be (Too) Frightened Of Florists & Should We Ban Imported Flowers?
Q: What about a ban on imported flowers?
The host argues against a complete ban on imported flowers citing potential negative impacts on the floristry market and the necessity of imports for certain times of the year.
Snow Has Arrived, Answering Your Brilliant Questions & My New Year Resolution
Q: What are your plans for succession planting this year?
Lydia intends to use flowering dates and harvesting dates to structure her succession planting for 2026, learning from previous years' experiences.
Snow Has Arrived, Answering Your Brilliant Questions & My New Year Resolution
Q: Will the bearded iris rhizomes get enough sun being interplanted with peonies?
Lydia believes they will receive enough sun, as she supports the peonies with string to promote sunlight exposure to the iris rhizomes.
