  • The Best History Podcast Out There

The level of detail this podcast goes into is unparalleled, yet the episodes are very clear and easy to follow. The research is meticulous. The narrator discusses so many perspectives, and acknowledges areas that could do with greater research. The best history podcast out there, the depth it goes into is what other podcasts should strive for. Recommended for history enthusiasts well-versed in WW1 history and students just starting out.

  • Superb atmospheric and detailed

It is hard to overstate how good this podcast is! I came to it because of my 52 year obsession about the battle of Verdun and the titanic struggle. Mike covers it superbly. I shall listen on because of the presenters knowledge, and his soldiers eye for the important details that others might ignore. Bravo!

Angel Down: A Discussion with Daniel Kraus
Q: Can you describe or introduce us to some of the characters in Angel Down?
The main character, Cyril Bagger, is an unsavory character who exploits other soldiers. There are four others, each with their own reasons for wanting to exploit the angel they find.
Angel Down: A Discussion with Daniel Kraus
Q: What got you interested in writing a story set in the World War I battlefield of the Meuse-Argonne?
I fell in love with the stories of World War I during my research for previous works, particularly the futility of the war and the absurdity of fighting for barren land.
Montreal to Courcelette via Paardeberg, a Discussion with Michel Gravel
Q: Could you imagine figuring out the lineage of these things?
That's what happens, you buy medals and then you want to know about the battle of the medal you bought.
Montreal to Courcelette via Paardeberg, a Discussion with Michel Gravel
Q: What is the medal we're looking at? What is it called again?
Well, this is the 1914-15 Star. This is if you arrived in after November 22nd, 1914, up until December 31st, 1915, you got the 1915 Star and there are no bars.
Montreal to Courcelette via Paardeberg, a Discussion with Michel Gravel
Q: Can we back up a bit here? So we've got the map of South Africa, and this is like basically following the battles of the Boer War, correct?
Right. Well, this is specifically the advance to Pretoria in 1900.
