  • Show Overall

    Hi Barrel to Bottle,

I'm Jon and have known Roger since 2009. I absolutely love the show!! I take notes regularly and adjust my Binny's purchases to follow many of the episodes, but mainly beer ...

I must admit at times, I think Chris & Pat give Roger a bit of a hard time, but the nature in good fun is always appreciated.

Many times I feel as if I'm sitting with Roger at one of my "garage sessions" with beer verticals so the show is special to me!

Thanks for all that each of you bring ... more

  • Gregory, the Wine Legend

We moved away from Hyde Park 5 years ago, so it was a delight to once again hear some of Gregory’s wine stories, which we enjoyed from time to time when we lived there. I would have liked to hear about more of Gregory’s celebrity customers, but Barak Obama does take the cake, so to speak. Thanks—I will definitely listen to some other episodes.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Binny's vs. The Machines
Q: What about a wine that is not sweet and not dry?
The group suggests Beaujolais for red or off-dry Riesling or Vouvray for white; Gewurztraminer is discussed but avoided as too niche, with emphasis on balance and acidity to avoid perceived sweetness.
Binny's vs. The Machines
Q: Is first growth Bordeaux worth it for most buyers?
The hosts acknowledge the pedigree and aging potential of first growths but stress considering the occasion, budget, and drinking window; for many, buying multiple bottles that drink well now offers better value, though special occasions may justify premier growth purchases.
Binny's vs. The Machines
Q: What wine would you serve at a brunch or baby shower?
AI and humans converge on light, festive options: sparkling wines (Prosecco, Cava), white wines like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, and Rosé, with non-alcoholic alternatives and option to tailor for group size and event context.
Binny's vs. The Machines
Q: What is a good wine for a 25-year-old?
AI suggests several easy-to-enjoy options and then the human panel refines with practical guidance: red blends, Pinot Noir, rosé, and sparkling wines, emphasizing value and approachability, along with non-alcoholic options if needed.
Binny's vs. The Machines
Q: What wine is good for a diabetic customer?
The panel explains that metabolism treats alcohol as a carbohydrate, so even low-sugar wines can have similar effects; they suggest cooler-climate wines with lower alcohol and then list options like dry Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and dry Riesling from Germany, along with Champagne as a generally safer bet in moderation.
