Reviews

4.9 out of 5 stars from 40 ratings
  • Not as helpful as they could be.

The interviews are good but some lack discussion of the actual results of the studies discussed. I am listening, as i am sure others are, because i don’t always have time to read all the studies. It seems like these almost tease the results which isn’t helpful for those trying to understand and implement best practices.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ultrasound & Oncology : Dr. Corey Hawes on Reliable Muscle Assessment in Pediatrics (NCP)
Q: Are there common reporting errors or methodological issues readers should hone in on when evaluating muscle ultrasound studies?
Key issues include variability in compression technique, probe positioning, and frequency of measurements; standardized protocols and clear reporting of blinding and measurement procedures are essential to reduce bias and improve comparability across studies.
Ultrasound & Oncology : Dr. Corey Hawes on Reliable Muscle Assessment in Pediatrics (NCP)
Q: What level and type of training is really required to become a reliable and competent user of ultrasound for nutrition assessment?
Training appears variable, with some clinicians receiving around eight hours of bespoke training plus hands-on practice; reliability improves with blinded measurements and consistent practice, but broad scalability remains challenging.
Ultrasound & Oncology : Dr. Corey Hawes on Reliable Muscle Assessment in Pediatrics (NCP)
Q: Can you share a little bit with us about your clinical background and how your interest grew for understanding body composition in this way?
Dr. Hawes describes a career rooted in cancer care, noting a move from adult to pediatric oncology and a recognition that body composition changes needed better, practical assessment tools beyond CT or MRI, which are less feasible longitudinally in kids.
Nutrition Interventions and Post-Intensive Care Syndrome with Drs. Dupuis and Busch (NCP)
Q: What are the practical recommendations clinicians can implement right away regarding calories and protein during the ICU stay and transition to recovery?
Avoid early overnutrition, start with lower targets and progressively increase calories and protein in the first week, then aim for around 30 kcal daily during rehabilitation with adequate protein intake, and ensure early mobilization when feasible, plus post‑ICU dietitian follow‑up and continued enteral nutrition as needed after ICU discharge.
Nutrition Interventions and Post-Intensive Care Syndrome with Drs. Dupuis and Busch (NCP)
Q: Can you go through and tell us a little bit about the details here, so we have a good understanding of what types of papers were included and excluded from your review?
We searched for papers that explicitly connected critical illness and post‑intensive care syndrome with nutrition therapy, including various study types, and we emphasized nutrition support in the discussion while recognizing overlap with related concepts. We included both research articles and systemic/narrative reviews that were reviewed by at least two authors and focused on nutrition's potential role in modulating PICS outcomes.
