  • Love this podcast!!

This podcast is greattttt for people who want to learn about a diverse range of artists of today in all types of mediums. As a young artist myself I’m using it as a tool to get better at speaking about my own work or my meaning by listening to artists share their own version of that. Captivating, entertaining, and educational. This podcast is great.

  • Valuable show for artists

5 stars. This show is a great asset for artists. So many honest and important conversations. It’s hard and often demoralizing trying to be an artist and keeping the dream alive in a largely indifferent world and it’s good to hear these inspiring people discuss their experiences.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#72 with Will Hutnick
Q: What role does chance play in your process?
Chance and noise are embraced; the rhythm of the marks, especially from rollers, introduces unexpected textures that are celebrated as part of the painting's evolution, not as accidents to be corrected.
#72 with Will Hutnick
Q: How do you approach starting a painting when you have no plan in mind?
He starts with ground textures and leaves, then allows an emergent structure to form, often avoiding sketches or formal planning so the work can respond in real time to what happens on the canvas.
#71 with Bruce Tapola
Q: What are your thoughts on the art market and pricing?
Bruce and Isaac discuss the absurdity of prices, the lure of buzz, and the tension between making meaningful work and selling it, noting that value is often tied more to context and spectacle than the work itself.
#71 with Bruce Tapola
Q: How do you approach finishing paintings versus leaving them open?
He explains that some paintings are finished only when they're bought, while others he revisits over years, balancing impulse, chance, and the desire to keep searching for a better version.
#71 with Bruce Tapola
Q: What was the last time you started a painting from scratch?
Bruce describes a recent process where he tackles a small group of canvases and works them as a set until they're convincing as a cohesive group, with a focus on avoiding any single “masterpiece” pressure.
