Part 2 of the MF DOOM story. We discuss his alter-egos, his commitment to music over image, his relationship with Madlib, his dizzying rhyme schemes, and his ridiculous ability to dissect how old words, memes, and cultures can morph and shift into so... more
The Independent Hip-Hop movement exploded in the early 2000's. While MF DOOM was on the forefront in New York, a triple threat who called himself Madlib was turning heads in Los Angeles.
The greatest Hip-Hop comeback story of all time. The music industry rejected him, so he rallied an entire community and became a legend.

Truthfully, I don’t have a lot of knowledge on this world of music. This podcast is so informative and well done, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s given me a fresh insight on a genre I’ve always felt intimidated/insecure asking questions about. Love it.
Max maples has done his homework here, with a thoroughly engaging podcast about a genre that I am now excited to get to know better thanks to Max’s fantastic storytelling. Get into it!
This podcast is wonderful! He breaks down famous hip hop tracks, discussing history and social context, and analyzing the music and verse. It’s very informative and well produced, with a tasty selection of classic tracks that you’re sure to have stuck in your head afterwards, and more importantly you’ll have a new appreciation for them. Six stars!!
Great tunes, incredibly well-researched, and an equal focus on people and musical analysis. I’m so impressed by how captivating this podcast is from the very first episode. Love all the archival interviews as well. Most of all, you can feel how much Max cares for the music and people he’s covering in each episode.
