  • Important

This is a perspective we don’t hear enough off. It’s refreshing to hear what we all in the business know to be true. Acting professionally is beyond hard. If you don’t learn how to moderate your emotional reactions around it, if you don’t work on life alongside your art it becomes unbearable. This pod unpacks the trials and tribulations from artists and it’s helpful to know we’re not alone.

Thomas Coombes

I applied for scholarships, wrote begging letters to industry figures, and received a life-changing £500 from Nigel Hawthorne that helped me afford drama school—an experience that underscored the value of support from established artists.

I grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, close to London, which exposed me early to a mix of local theatre and the big-city industry pull; it shaped my working-class background and his approach to craft.
