  • Too Gimmicky

I loved this podcast but lately it’s very clear it’s become a free marketing channel for promoting an absurdly expensive book coaching program that mostly targets women. Gives me the ick.

  • Excited to be here

I’m tuning in for the first time and listening to the 2025 Blueprint Challenge. While I can see the benefit for writers at all levels, this will be perfect for me in the revision stages. Not to mention the information and advice in the regular podcasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Big Time: How to find time abundance in your writer life
Q: Does Laura have any tips for dealing with lots of unpredictable interruptions, like caregiving appointments, that disrupt writing time?
Yes. Use time tracking to understand patterns, identify predictable interruptions, and protect dedicated writing blocks. If possible, arrange auxiliary care or shifts so you can reserve predictable windows for writing, and treat short fragments as legitimate progress rather than waiting for perfect, uninterrupted time.
Hot Seat Coaching: Building a Killer Twist: Going Deeper Inside a Gothic Mystery Blueprint
Q: What do you think is the most important thing Andrew should be thinking about in this next iteration of the outline?
Figure out Seward's real motive and how it relates to Abby, then map out the actions he would take that affect her directly, including who he might frame or manipulate to land the climactic twists.
"I Had the Full Heart of the Question In My Hand."
Q: What was the hardest part of the process?
The toughest part was the early stage of revision when it wasn't clear whether the project would become a book, compounded by limited time and juggling family responsibilities.
"I Had the Full Heart of the Question In My Hand."
Q: How did you know where the ending would land?
The ending came to her roughly halfway through the first draft, with a sense of where the plane needed to land even as the exact route took more time to refine.
Write the Book Readers Can’t Stop Recommending (Write Big, Ep 14)
Q: So will you tell us what you mean by that?
AJ explains the Top Three Book concept, emphasizing writing for a reader's needs rather than chasing generic metrics, and how aiming for a book that becomes someone's top three shifts the entire writing process.
