Julia is obviously a lovely woman but she is not North American. I don’t understand why you can’t find someone to represent our young folks who is from the United States or Canada. Julia should be representing

Eastern Europe. I’m not going to go on any further about this because it’s obvious what I’m saying.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Pathway to Priesthood: Nathan Krawetzke, SJ
Q: Tell me about some highlights of Jesuit formation and moments that were especially formative or surprising.
Nathan highlights several formative episodes: a Jesuit pilgrimage across the U.S. showing how different communities shape discernment; direct experiences with education and service in diverse contexts (Alaska, Nairobi) shaping his sense of mission; and the eight-day silent retreat that brought trust, fear, and affirmation into focus, culminating in the decision to enter the novitiate and embrace priestly life.
Pathway to Priesthood: Nathan Krawetzke, SJ
Q: So why don't we begin with the most obvious question. Maybe you can tell us your vocation story. What drew you to become a Jesuit?
Nathan describes a long-running internal conversation about vocation, marked by childhood conversations, fear of altering life plans, a dramatic moment of prayer and consolation, and a gradual realization that God invites him into a life of Jesuit formation rather than forcing it. He explains how experiences—from mentoring youth to eight-day retreats and visits to seminary communities—shaped a growing acceptance of the Jesuit path, culminating in the decision to enter the novitiate.
What We Can Learn From Tolkien's Catholic Imagination with Kaitlyn Facista
Q: Why is eucatastrophe central to Tolkien's worldview, and how does it connect to Christian faith?
The host explains that eucatastrophe is a turning point of joy in the midst of despair, which Tolkien linked to Christ's birth and resurrection, providing a lens to understand redemption as a narrative through-line in fairy stories and in life.
What We Can Learn From Tolkien's Catholic Imagination with Kaitlyn Facista
Q: How did your personal journey with Tolkien begin, and how did it influence your writing of the book?
Kaitlyn describes discovering Tolkien as a catalyst for integrating faith into everyday life, realizing the Catholic underpinnings gradually, and then using that framework to guide her own spiritual reflection and community work through Tea with Tolkien.
How This Lawyer Fights for the Common Good with Kevin Walsh
Q: What led you to pursue a career in public service and housing advocacy, and how did your Jesuit experiences shape that path?
Early volunteer work with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps exposed him to poverty and system-level injustices, motivating a lifelong trajectory in law and public service focused on using legal means to promote housing justice and equal opportunity.
