Julia is obviously a lovely woman but she is not North American. I don’t understand why you can’t find someone to represent our young folks who is from the United States or Canada. Julia should be representing

Eastern Europe. I’m not going to go on any further about this because it’s obvious what I’m saying.

Why Your Inner Artist Needs Monastic Wisdom with Christine Valters Paintner
Q: How do you translate ancient monastic principles into practical actions for creators today?
She describes becoming a monk in the world, interpreting stability as commitment to a process, and obedience as listening deeply to the divine calling in one's work. She also highlights seasonal rhythms, the sacredness of ordinary acts, and the practice of treating creative tools as sacred vessels.
Why Your Inner Artist Needs Monastic Wisdom with Christine Valters Paintner
Q: Can you define the monastic tradition and explain why it has been fruitful for your creative life?
Christine explains that monasticism centers on time for contemplation and hospitality, and that the monk or artist can be at home in the world rather than retreating to a cloister. The emphasis is on embodying Benedictine and Celtic practices—hospitality, humility, stability, and conversion—in everyday life to support creative work.
