I’ve been meaning to do this review for a while but the most recent episode pushed me over the edge. This podcast talks about sustainability and travel but they give very little in ways of actually being sustainable. If I had a nickel for each time they said “do your research” I’d be a millionaire. Very good at explaining the problem but little to no information on what solutions might be out there. Also the last episode they were blatantly racist and definitely guilty of judging a book by its ... more

Rethinking Tourism in Tofino with the Tribal Park Allies Program
Q: For folks who aren't familiar, could you explain exactly what the Tribal Park Allies Initiative is?
The initiative is a framework that invites local businesses to become Indigenous Allies by signing a non-binding protocol that acknowledges Indigenous territories, aligns storytelling with First Nation history, and collects a 1% ecosystem service fee to support tribal governance and projects. It is designed to incentivize collaboration between businesses and Indigenous nations to create more equitable, culturally informed tourism.
Let's Talk About Sex Tourism
Q: What inspired you to focus your research on sex tourism and its contemporary relevance?
The research grew out of a long-standing interest in the internationalization of LGBTQ rights and the realization that sex tourism sits at the crossroads of labor, desire, and global inequality, making it a crucial site to understand power and politics in travel today.
Unpacking Representation of Women in Aviation | REPLAY
Q: What are the main barriers you faced as a Black woman pursuing aviation, and how can people help overcome them?
Finances and exposure were key barriers; she highlights scholarships, mentorship, and early exposure to aviation in schools as crucial supports, along with the need for representation to inspire future pilots.
Unpacking Representation of Women in Aviation | REPLAY
Q: What inspired you to become a pilot?
Joi recounts an adventurous upbringing, her father's guidance, and a path from flight attendant to pursuing flight school, emphasizing persistence, mentorship, and a clear plan.
It’s Time to Rethink “The Best Time to Visit”
Q: How should travelers prepare for this uncertainty?
Travelers should do deep, diverse research beyond top search results, leverage forums like Reddit for real-ground information, build flexible plans with buffers, and consider slow travel to better adapt to changing conditions.
