  • Fantastic

Loving this podcast so much. It’s shocking to hear all the manipulation, covert and overt abuse and twisting things, deception, sinister actions on the part of Christian organizations. Can’t wait for each new episode. Shocking yet motivating.

  • Thorough and liberating!

Thank you both so much for your tireless work in research on this issue and for the courage with which you bring forth the facts! You both are gifted communicators and I find these episodes to be extremely engaging and jam packed with facts, details, first-hand accounts, interviews etc! I grew up in many SBC churches and was taught to never question anything…much less why I, as a woman, had no authority. A few years back I had a complete crumbling of the “house of cards” that was my faith…I am ... more

  • Fascinating hidden history

I don't necessarily agree with all the conclusions of the hosts, but this is a very important topic that needs to be discussed within the SBC more openly and widely. As a lifelong member of the SBC, I welcome and appreciate this deep dive into the Southern Baptist archives and learning our hidden history. We are the denomination of Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong, and our churches only function through the hard work of women. Let's celebrate that, fellow Southern Baptists!

Q: How did the role of Bertha Smith contribute to the understanding of women's roles within the SBC?
Bertha Smith's dual role as a missionary and lecturer allowed her to navigate the restrictive policies of the SBC, functioning in a capacity that resembled pastoral duties without the title, highlighting the discrepancies in the convention's views on women's ministry.
