  • Helps deepen my understanding of Gestalt!

I am a second year graduate student aiming to become and LPC, and I have appreciated how these conversations are deepening my understanding of Gestalt therapy. I do notice that they seem to have been edited - at least I think?

On the one hand, I appreciate the succinctness, but on the other, I would love to hear the natural flow of the conversations! Regardless, 5/5 for me because the episodes are so rich and deep!

  • Amazing podcast

This has been so helpful while studying an integrative course in the UK (level 4) it has really helped give me an in depth understanding of what it is to be a gestalt therapist and I have found it so valuable in my learning. From watching Perl’s and Gloria thinking this is not for me at all I can honestly say I am really excited to be able to do more research and use this therapy in my integrative approach. Thank you.

  • Engaging

I had the opportunity to listen to the whole series on a road trip. I appreciated the deep dive into the key pillars of Gestalt and how they interrelate and support the unfolding of a human. Refreshing. Thanks Dr. Goldsmith and friends. Please keep going!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 12: Therapist Doubt
Q: What practical exercises or concepts support practicing doubt in therapy?
Techniques include bracketing (Peronian skepticism), maintaining a beginner's mind, and staying curious about the client's process, all while recognizing the limits of one's own knowledge.
Episode 12: Therapist Doubt
Q: How does doubt influence the therapist–client relationship and power dynamics?
Doubt helps balance power, invites collaboration, and reduces the risk of imposing the therapist's framework; it supports a co-created, dialogic process rather than a top-down, expert-driven approach.
Episode 12: Therapist Doubt
Q: Why is doubt important for Gestalt psychotherapy specifically?
Doubt is framed as a generator of ethical humility, helping therapists maintain contact, avoid premature labeling (e.g., narcissistic or borderline), and keep meaning-making processes open to the client's unfolding experience.
Episode 12: Therapist Doubt
Q: What sparked your interest in the topic of doubt in psychotherapy?
Viktoras talks about his personal temperament and experiences in Lithuanian training journeys and GATLA residencies, which shaped his view that doubt is a core, ongoing practice rather than a temporary stance.
Episode 11: Trauma
Q: Please tell us about your path to Gestalt therapy and how trauma drew you to this approach.
Kristen describes her move from CBT toward Gestalt after a pivotal class by Todd Burley, which highlighted the value of the whole person and authentic presence. She explains how trauma work emerged from her exposure to intense clinical settings, her VA and eating disorder work, and extensive training that connected trauma with attachment and systemic factors.
