  • All Else Equal, But sometimes “more equal”

So, Professor Van Binsbergen was one of my favorite professors while at Wharton, and I learned a LOT in his Investment Management class

However, in the most recent episode a few glaring things occurred. Effectively fawning over Trump’s communications style while not discussing the potential downfalls of what this may mean for our relationships with our allies.

A discussion on his negotiation style should have also looked at how he views negotiations, especially with respect to The Art of the ... more

  • National Debt episode was superb!

Great discussion of the various methods to characterize the level of debt and which measure is the most “correct”. Also great discussion for the options to increase GDP growth. It would be nice if you could summarize the key ideas from each episode is some central learnings document that you could tie to the show notes. Also- would a good subtitle for the show be (“All Else is Never Equal”)?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep68 “Is It Better to Overestimate or Underestimate Your Enemies?” with H.R. McMaster
Q: How should decision makers react when you get intelligence knowing these asymmetries?
You have to challenge the intelligence community and be in a constant dialogue with them, always asking follow-up questions and ensuring that they understand the context of what you're looking for.
Ep68 “Is It Better to Overestimate or Underestimate Your Enemies?” with H.R. McMaster
Q: Do you think the intelligence people intentionally overestimate our enemies?
I don't think it's intentional. I just think it's because what we're really good at is counting stuff, weapons, and weapon systems. And what we're not really good about are two things: paying attention to the qualitative dimension of combat effectiveness and understanding our own capabilities.
Ep65 "Will Future AI Systems Operate Like The Human Brain? It’s Complicated” with Jeff Hawkins
Q: What is the future of AI and its impact on human jobs?
AI will not replace all human jobs but will serve as a tool that complements human decision-making capabilities.
Ep65 "Will Future AI Systems Operate Like The Human Brain? It’s Complicated” with Jeff Hawkins
Q: What makes human intelligence fundamentally different from AI?
AI systems lack the ability to interact physically with the world and build knowledge based on spatial relations, unlike the human brain.
Ep65 "Will Future AI Systems Operate Like The Human Brain? It’s Complicated” with Jeff Hawkins
Q: Tell me why I'm wrong or right about how the brain works and how it relates to AI?
The brain is not a computer; it is a type of memory system that builds models of the world and learns through observation and interaction.
