I’m one of 74,000,000 Baby Boomers. I am writing my life story (on my blog) and narrating it (here) because if I don’t, the only earthly notice of my middle-class, middle-American existence might be a feature story in a nursing home’s newsletter when I reach 110: “Last Surviving Woodstock Attendee: ‘It was a hot, muddy mess.’”

Senior year, I made the Dean’s list.

Hampden-Sydney had a great track record of booking musical acts before they burst onto the national scene. One year, the then little-known John Denver played at homecoming. Shortly after, he became the well-known John Denver.

As a kid, I dreamed of getting a magic lantern and rubbing it to awaken the genie who could grant my wishes. Not surprisingly, I never got that magic lantern. But when I was 10, I got a magic box. It didn’t come cheap. It cost $10.

Absolutely wonderful. A beautifully told story of a life well lived!
Only halfway through and I’m hooked! I listen to podcasts every night to unwind and help me fall asleep. I find myself staying awake because I’m actually interested in the story. An authentic, humorous coming of age reflection of growing up in the 50’s-60’s. An added bonus is the writers voice is GOLD.
When you know someone you think you know them.
To hear them tell their life story is fun, interesting, compelling and sometimes shocking.
Alan Sivell’s narrative biography is all of those things. What’s amazing to me is the detail he remembers some 50 odd years later of this or that otherwise innocuous detail. But it’s those details and that color that bring his story to life.
Every week I look forward to a new chapter! Alan transports me back and I feel like I’m right there with him. He is an amazing story teller! Keep them coming Alan, and I will be listening!
