  • RIP to Air Jordan

RIP to a solid podcast that was doing an “ok” job of surveying restaurants in LA while simultaneous engaging mostly with a community of personal friends and personal relationships within the industry. Now they want to charge people for a video podcast where they can’t even get high quality cameras or sit in front each other for a higher quality video product. I wish them well in their further pursuit of reviewing trendy openings where most people can’t get in and leaving unexplored smaller busin... more

  • My go to for LA

The day when Jordan ceases to say “and remember, the episode is coming soon” will be a very sad day. What a duo. Team Max for telling it like it is, and team Jordan for bringing life to the pod.

  • Annie & Hallie not fun

I’ve never turned your podcast off but after listening to Annie & Hallie’s opinions on what’s tasteful I tuned out. No dogs, no apps, no baked cheeses, no fun. Not sure why their held in high esteem, because of their parents???

  • Uppity Okun

General episodes are good and funny but if there’s an interview, be careful. It’s usually with uppity people without any exposure to culture beyond the yts. Interview episodes with non chefs such as restaurant group execs, for as long as I can remember, are boring and full of talking down to certain groups of people. Interviews with chefs don’t have any humor. It’s straight business talk.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Le Veau d’Or & Wine with Jon Yadegar
Q: What makes the Mad Grapes concept viable and appealing to consumers?
Mad Grapes focuses on accessible, premium consumer experiences with transparent packaging and a playful label approach, while maintaining serious wine quality and a shopable, on-the-go bottle format that's bridgeable from casual to more serious wine drinking.
Le Veau d’Or & Wine with Jon Yadegar
Q: How does the restaurant-labeling program actually work in practice?
The team explains it's a flexible process: they can either white-label existing wines or collaborate with a restaurant to craft a unique blend, sometimes in-house at Jumbo Time or at the partner's location, to fit the venue's food program.
Le Veau d’Or & Wine with Jon Yadegar
Q: All right, so especially for people who own restaurants listening right now, if you want to up your house wine game, what should people do?
Jon suggests direct outreach via email or Instagram, and encourages restaurant partners to start with a clear, co-branded concept, then scale the program by building trust and offering customized blends that fit the restaurant's menu and palate.
One Night at Penny, Claud, and Stars with Chase Sinzer
Q: What makes Penny's shrimp cocktail unique and how does it influence the rest of the meals on the trip?
The shrimp cocktail is highlighted for its texture and moisture thanks to a baking soda and salt cure, setting a high standard and making the rest of the seafood courses feel like a continuation of a precise technique throughout Penny, Claud, and Stars.
NY or LA: Who Has The Best Bars In America?
Q: Is LA ever going to catch up to New York in the bar scene?
While LA has growing programs and notable venues, the consensus was that it won't catch New York in the near term, though there is definite momentum and a rising cadre of standout bars that could reshape the landscape over time.
