  • Still farming at 82

All the farmers needed this program 60 years ago when we (wife and I) started farming. There would have been a lot of changes in our farming operation for the better.

  • The Hefty Brothers are fantastic advocates to agriculture

I have been listening to these guys for a few years now. I have seen first hand better results with my crops and yields. It’s always the little things that you don’t think of that make the difference. There’s normally never an episode where I don’t have a light bulb moment and go “yes I forgot about that” or “I wonder if I analyse my data better, will I see something similar to what they are talking about?”.

So glad I found this podcast and listen daily!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

06 04 26 Pulling Your Own Soil Tests
Q: What about adding more nitrogen for soybeans when the yield potential is high, and how would you apply it with fungicides?
Experiment with a small, targeted foliar or dribbled nitrogen in addition to the fungicide, test on a few strips, and evaluate payback in yield versus cost; significance depends on current price and soybean yield potential.
06 04 26 Pulling Your Own Soil Tests
Q: How do I soil sample when strip tillage is my method of putting on fertility?
Pull samples across the entire field rather than strictly in the strip to get a representative reading of soil fertility and to guide overall field management.
06 05 26 Farmer Friday!
Q: How do you manage water pH for fungicide applications when doing drone work?
We recommend using fulvic acid, higher water volume, and spray pressure with careful droplet size; test and adjust pH per product label guidance (most fungicides want slightly acidic to neutral pH, some like higher pH).
06 09 26 Why Do Herbicides Fail?
Q: What are the most common reasons herbicides fail in the field?
Main issues discussed include insufficient activation rainfall for residuals, improper spray rate, wrong product choice for the weed spectrum, poor spray coverage due to weed height, and equipment/weather factors that reduce efficacy; also importance of fall applications and robust residual programs.
06 11 26 Crown Rot and Stalk Rots in Corn
Q: How long does zywe in-furrow last in the plant and provide season-long protection?
Zywe in-furrow lasts a long time and continues to provide foliar disease protection through the season, helping with standability even late in the year when foliar passes have worn down.
