  • Quality Interviewer

Chris is such an interesting & interested interviewer. She manages to make her guests feel so relaxed & asks such unexpected questions, that the artist’s life story seems to unfold before you. She often goes right back to the grandparent’s history which sheds a rich light on the formative years of the artist. Chris allows her guests so much freedom & time to answer her questions that you actually feel you start to know them. She somehow had me talking about subjects entirely unrelated to art, bu... more

Canadian Hyperrealism Artist Erin Rothstein on Process, Inspiration & Career
Q: What are you most focused on as you expand your career beyond galleries and selling art?
I'm focused on building a self-led practice, writing a book, speaking engagements, teaching, and inspiring others to live creatively, not just collecting finished pieces.
Canadian Hyperrealism Artist Erin Rothstein on Process, Inspiration & Career
Q: How much time do you actually spend in your studio given your busy life with four kids?
I spend many hours daily; the studio is my creative haven and even when I'm not actively painting, I'm in a mode of preparation and reflection that feeds my work.
Canadian Hyperrealism Artist Erin Rothstein on Process, Inspiration & Career
Q: Would that be accurate, Erin, do you stick by that minimalist aesthetic to enhance the pop culture of your hyperreal technique?
Yes, I do; I see the minimalism as a way to let the subject—the food and fashion motifs—shine within a highly detailed, precise rendering, which creates a clean, impactful visual language.
Katherina Olschbaur: Vulnerability, Power & the Psychology of Contemporary Painting
Q: What role does color play in your spirituality and in shaping the experiences you want to give viewers?
Color for me is a conduit to the ineffable, a way to communicate emotion beyond words, and a tool to create a sense of space that can uplift or challenge the viewer. It's a language I use to navigate the moral complexities of beauty and rebellion in my work.
Katherina Olschbaur: Vulnerability, Power & the Psychology of Contemporary Painting
Q: How has moving from Vienna to New York altered your artistic language or opportunities?
Moving opened up access to galleries and international programs, shifting from a more localized scene to a broader network. It allowed me to balance independent practice with gallery collaboration, deepen my exploration of color, and engage with a more diverse community that fuels risk-taking.
