  • Don ruins this for me

I can’t really listen to this podcast anymore because of Don. He always bothered me because of how over the top he is. Nothing he says has ever felt genuine. But recently met a couple of people who are in the same sober community as Don and they said that he has become a destructive influence. They said he talks a good game but stopped doing the work and living these principles years ago, that he has caused a lot harm to newcomers by judging, playing god, and flat out breaking AA traditions. And... more

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Love of Service [Season 10, Episode 14]
Q: How did your initial fear around public speaking and meeting participation evolve into leadership roles?
Fear persisted early on, but consistent involvement, taking on 12-step calls, and supportive mentors helped me gain confidence; over time I moved from attending to chairing meetings and serving as a district committee member, which opened paths to area and regional leadership.
The Love of Service [Season 10, Episode 14]
Q: What was the turning point that led you to AA after your first experiences with sobriety and the military?
I began attending meetings due to a serious bottom and a relationship that opened the door through a counselor and Al-Anon; once I got involved, I found sponsorship and 12-step work that kept me engaged and ultimately connected to the broader service structure.
Contrary Action [Season 10, Episode 11]
Q: Emily, what broke through for you to commit to sponsorship and deeper service in AA?
A combination of personal desperation, the realization that there was no other option, and a spiritual experience that gave me the courage to commit to the steps and to service.
Getting Sober When You're Older [Season 10, Episode 12]
Q: So Don, how old were you when you found alcoholics anonymous?
Don shares that he found AA in his early adulthood and reflects on why age and timing matter in the recovery journey, acknowledging how the community's support helped him see a path forward even when life circumstances were challenging.
Embrace Who I Am [Season 10, Episode 8]
Q: What surprises you about your life today in recovery?
Courtney expresses surprise at feeling worthy and her newfound ability to engage confidently in service and public speaking.
