Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Navigating Attraction, Oversharing, and Building Community!
Q: Would you ever have a guest listener say your show intro on the air, and how would you handle listener-submitted intros?
They propose the idea and suggest inviting listeners to submit audio intros, with a willingness to incorporate them if they fit, otherwise using standard intros.
Answering Your Questions And Loving Lesbians
Q: What should Julia do about a friend who commented on trans reels in a way that hurt her, and how should she approach the conversation?
Capri and Ashley advise starting with honesty and compassion, expressing how the behavior affected her, and setting boundaries while recognizing that the goal is to preserve her own well-being rather than forcing change in others.
Protecting Your Peace w/ Family & Getting Over Your Gay Best Friend
Q: If coming out to family is triggering dismissiveness, should I push for a direct conversation or protect my peace by stepping back?
Evaluate how close you are with your family and how much they engage with you in other aspects of life. If there is room for a meaningful, respectful conversation that could improve validation, try direct communication. If that seems unlikely or would cause ongoing harm, prioritize your peace and rely on your chosen family and queer community for validation instead, while possibly tentatively keeping the door open for later conversations.
Protecting Your Peace w/ Family & Getting Over Your Gay Best Friend
Q: Hi Ashley and Capri, I'm in college and in love with my best friend who has a girlfriend. What should I do to get over them without wrecking the friend group?
Be honest about your feelings but don't act on them in ways that would threaten the friendship or the girlfriend. Create some distance to help you heal, communicate clearly that you value the friendship, and invest in other friendships and activities to refill your emotional reservoir. If you do choose to talk to your friend, do so with care and avoid pressuring them to change their relationship. If the situation remains painful, extending space may be the healthier path.
Your First Situationship & How To Come Out At Work
Q: What's the best way to handle an ex who seems to be playing games in trying to set you up with someone else?
Avoid drama by choosing kindness and boundaries. You don't need to engage deeply; smile, nod, and stay focused on your own life while removing the emotional energy the situation feeds on.
