4.8 out of 5 stars from 49 ratings
  • NIMBYg Sur

Having listened to many of these episodes over a short period of time, what emerges is that while Magnus is an affable host who has many interesting guests, he also has a NIMBY agenda that would make the city of Atherton blush, and a confident ignorance about American politics that befits someone living in the woods. Maybe it’s time for someone a bit less reactionary to run the Henry Miller library.

# 122 Help Kelp: The Mysterious World of the Bull Kelp Forest with Josie Iselin
Q: What is your elevator pitch for the book and project?
Kelp forests are essential to understanding the oceans; they are an ocean planet's entry point for readers to learn about the drama of ocean life, inviting curiosity and ongoing engagement at events and through bullkelp.info.
# 122 Help Kelp: The Mysterious World of the Bull Kelp Forest with Josie Iselin
Q: What was the inception idea for turning the Bull Kelp story into a web project and later a book?
We named ourselves Above Below to draw attention to underwater wildfires just as there is forest wildfire awareness on land, and we aimed to build ocean literacy using bull kelp as a talisman, making it accessible for the public and connected with designers and scientists.
# 119 Walking Toward the Stars — A Conversation with Brita Ostrom (Öström)
Q: How does it feel now that it is finished and you are, I guess, embarking on a little bit of a publicity stint, I guess?
To hold that book in my hand is just a wonderful experience. It looks better than I thought it would.
# 112 Atomic Dreams: The New Nuclear Evangelists and the Fight for the Future of Energy
Q: How does Rebecca view the relationship between renewable energy and nuclear power?
She believes they can be complementary in an energy portfolio, addressing the challenge of fossil fuel reliance.
# 112 Atomic Dreams: The New Nuclear Evangelists and the Fight for the Future of Energy
Q: What has influenced the public's opinion on nuclear energy?
Factors include the fading memories of past nuclear accidents and the rising concern about climate change.
