  • It gets deeper than most…

My favorite part of this podcast is the host Ray asks some questions that go much deeper into who the artist is as a person. This always rounds out the person and tends to lead to interesting answers that sheds light on the music they’re creating. It feels like so much more than someone just promoting their latest record. These episodes are more like two people having an honest conversation and one of those two people happens to be in a band I love and want to know more about and the other is de... more

Jeremy Walker from Fire In The Mountains Fest
Q: What was a turning point that made the festival feel more real and professional?
The shift to the Dude Ranch and forming an LLC with bank accounts and official governance made the event feel like a real, revenue-driven operation and deepened relationships with bands.
Mat Dwyer from Oakwood
Q: How did Oakwood handle the viral moment and what guided the band's decisions going forward?
Oakwood chose to engage with the opportunity thoughtfully, prioritizing new music and live performance while keeping a strong sense of self and a desire to avoid turning into a one-hit wonder, which led to strategic discussions about touring, recording an LP, and balancing band life with other responsibilities.
Mat Dwyer from Oakwood
Q: When did the bug to play in a band start for you, and how did your early experiences shape Oakwood?
The early band experiences were improvised and communal; I started in a family-involved, local scene in Texas, where friends and DIY spaces fostered a love of making music rather than chasing fame, which laid the groundwork for Oakwood's sincere, collaborative approach.
Nathan Martin from Creation Is Crucifixion
Q: What led to your transition from being in a band to building a career in marketing and entrepreneurship?
He recounts pursuing art and technology projects, then building a company that leveraged the DIY ethos and community networks learned in the underground scene, eventually leading to roles in branding and product development.

Q: How did your approach to technology intersect with your music and DIY culture?
He talks about blending hacktivism, game hacks, and early internet experiments with band activities, and how that curiosity carried into his later marketing career.
