  • Best technical podcast in the space

I consistently listen to ~8 podcasts in the cryptocurrency space, and this one remains the best for anyone with a computer science background. I think the more-accessible news-covering space has become over saturated and this podcast’s a breath of fresh air for the ones who wanna go deeper. Always worth the time

  • The best technical crypto podcast

This is by far my favorite crypto podcast, and is also on my top 5 podcast list overall.

I always learn somethmake knew listening to these episodes, and it often translates into topics I can research at work or in my spare time. The conversations don’t gloss over details, but are also accessible to those who might not have background in some subject matter

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Evolution from ZKP2P to Peer with Richard Liang
Q: What are the trade-offs of moving from a ZK-based approach to TE-based attestations, and how do you address privacy concerns?
The main trade-off is trusting the TE provider (AWS Nitro in our case) instead of pure ZK cryptography. We gain speed and usability and keep ephemeral privacy through one-second session-level attestations. We mitigate risk with modular TE design, keeping the TE focused on a single task, and by maintaining strong off-chain attestation and on-chain verification processes that preserve privacy without exposing full session data.
The Evolution from ZKP2P to Peer with Richard Liang
Q: Can you walk us through the user path in the new TE-based system and how it differs from the previous flows?
Users log in to their Venmo account via a Peer extension, intercept the Venmo API response, and the TE, which holds private keys, decrypts the session material, replays the API call to Venmo, and signs a limited attestation (amount, recipient, timestamp) that the user then submits on-chain to unlock USDC. This replaces the prior client-side ZK proofs and shifts trust to the TE while significantly improving speed and UX.
The Evolution from ZKP2P to Peer with Richard Liang
Q: What has happened since the earlier ZK Email approach, and what were the major iterations you went through?
We moved from ZK Email to ZK TLS as an intermediate step, then shifted to TE-based attestations with our own infrastructure. This changed our flow from proving email-based receipts to proving API responses, and finally to an architecture where a trusted execution environment attests to Web2 API calls, signs relevant fields, and enables on-chain actions with much lower latency and greater programmability.
Pushing the Limits of Proof Systems with Benedikt Bünz
Q: How do folding and hash-based approaches relate to practical deployment and post-quantum readiness?
Folding and hash-based approaches offer strong parallelism and scalability by structuring computations so they can be proven efficiently across multiple machines; for post-quantum readiness, hash-based schemes may replace more structured hash functions like Poseidon in certain contexts, enabling faster verification and broader hardware compatibility.
Pushing the Limits of Proof Systems with Benedikt Bünz
Q: What is the current status of Espresso's shared sequencer and its enterprise focus?
Espresso has evolved the shared sequencer into a fast finality layer for rollups, enabling quick vetting of transaction sets before posting to Ethereum, and is engaging with large financial institutions to explore real-world use cases like money market funds and high-throughput trading infrastructures.
