《西遊記》是流傳最廣、最受廣大年齡層喜愛的中國傳統小說。而孫悟空也無疑是世界上最知名（也最受時代考驗）的猴子。小說中的唐三藏是以玄奘法師為原型，可想而知這故事的源頭有其宗教使命，衍南老師進一步提醒這部小說有很多不同的讀法，可以從佛家角度去讀，而同時也可以看到道教內丹派、儒家心學、易經等內涵，故事中各宗派透過神魔妖怪彼此對抗。也因此有學者主張其實這部小說是透過孫悟空的眼光在嘲諷宗教。而在本集節目中，衍南老師則要帶大家從孫悟空與豬八戒兩個角色的對比對照，來從個人心理層面去切入。
