  • Great podcast!

I would love to hear more about how ideas turn out - what works and doesn’t. For example, you could have old guests come on and talk about their thesis from years ago and why they played out or didn’t.

  • Can’t pronounce his way out of a paper bag

Whenever I say to myself “I want to pronounce a word wrong” I pull this podcast up and just listen to the way he butchers peoples names and the names of their funds. Also it’s great to hear the ideas he likes because it’s great to do otherwise

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Night Watch's Roderick van Zuylen on Marex $MRX
Q: What about the valuation and multiple compression – is it justified given the growth and risk?
The guest argues Marex trades at a reasonable multiple given its earnings growth trajectory and ROE uplift from acquisitions, with potential for multiple expansion over time as the business demonstrates sustained accretive growth and scales, though there are uncertainties around private equity overhang and credit risk in volatile markets.
Night Watch's Roderick van Zuylen on Marex $MRX
Q: What is Marex and why is it interesting as an investment thesis?
Marex is a futures clearing merchant with a strong, tech-enabled clearing and brokerage business; its high ROE, aggressive but value-driven M&A playbook, and potential for earnings growth in a volatile macro environment make it a compelling case study relative to peers like StoneX and RJ O'Brien.
Theravance's strategic review with Andy Summers $TBPH
Q: How is the Yupelri asset valued and what is the potential upside?
Yupelri's US royalty stream plus cash gives an implied value of around $18 per share when combined with existing cash, and the China royalties could add several hundred million in additional value, potentially lifting total value beyond the base case.
Theravance's strategic review with Andy Summers $TBPH
Q: What is Theravance and why are they interesting?
Theravance is a single-product pharma company anchored by Yupelri for COPD; the stock has been volatile due to a failed Phase 3 trial, but the asset base, especially the cash balance and future royalties, offers a potential pathway to value through strategic options and a sale to a larger partner, with Beatrice likely as a buyer.
Carriage House's Will Cleary on $FTAI
Q: What is FTAI and why is it interesting?
FTAI is a vertically integrated platform that buys run-out aircraft engines, refurbishes modules, and offers a rapid module swap service to airlines, significantly reducing maintenance time and cost. Its asset-light growth via strategic capital initiatives and potential expansion into data-center turbine derivatives present substantial upside, supported by a scalable ecosystem and strong management alignment.
