  • Commiserating on value

I love the veggies and value perspective. The podcast is what you will hear sitting in the office overhearing your coworkers.

  • Fantastic Value Investing Podcast

Tobias, Jake, and Bill are an excellent standing panel that walk through the value investing topics du jour. The format changes occasionally from panel to 1-on-1 interview. The guests are always fantastic and interesting. Highly recommend!

  • Noise

I feel sorry for Jake. He deserves better. His vege’s segment is the only redeeming feature of this show - plus the odd professional guest. Otherwise, it’s a complete waste of time - primarily because of Tobias. The quality of his questions and commentary reveal a total lack of insight and depth.

  • Remove Bill

I agree with most other listeners that Bill brings this show down. He doesn’t bring much to the table. He complains and is very cynical about almost everything he talks about. The other two guys are fantastic. This is my opinion obviously, and I don’t mean to sound rude, but I am being honest with how I feel about this show. Truth hurts sometimes.

  • Too Many F-bombs

This is an entertaining podcast with some interesting observations contained within the banter, however; at times it sounds more like a college dormitory. One of the speakers giggles a lot and then throws out F-bombs for shock value.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Derek Pilecki on long/short financials investing, regional banks, non-banks and insurance | S08 E08
Q: Derek, can you explain your strategy to us, please?
I approach banks and financials with a deep-value lens focused on cheap valuations, potential catalysts that could rerate multiples, and balance sheet quality, aiming for situations where earnings can grow and the multiple can expand, often using a leveraged long/short structure.
Jonathan Tepper on The Myth of Capitalism, his "Shooting Up" memoir and $BKMG | S08 E07
Q: What do you want the readers to take away from your memoir?
I hope it honors the memory of my friends and brings their personalities to life for those who may have lost them.
Jonathan Tepper on The Myth of Capitalism, his "Shooting Up" memoir and $BKMG | S08 E07
Q: Can you take us through the thesis on booking.com when you bought it?
We believed the stock was undervalued due to temporary interruptions in travel caused by COVID.
Jonathan Tepper on The Myth of Capitalism, his "Shooting Up" memoir and $BKMG | S08 E07
Q: What in that book informs how you practice investing today?
Focusing on industries that have become more concentrated and understanding the implications for competition and profit margins.
Jay D. Hatfield, Portfolio Manager InfraCap Small Cap, Income, MLPs and REIT Preferreds | S08 E05
Q: How do you think about leverage as a tool?
Leverage is used conservatively, typically only a little to enhance income, while consistently monitoring the risk of the portfolio.
