  • Commiserating on value

I love the veggies and value perspective. The podcast is what you will hear sitting in the office overhearing your coworkers.

  • Fantastic Value Investing Podcast

Tobias, Jake, and Bill are an excellent standing panel that walk through the value investing topics du jour. The format changes occasionally from panel to 1-on-1 interview. The guests are always fantastic and interesting. Highly recommend!

  • Noise

I feel sorry for Jake. He deserves better. His vege’s segment is the only redeeming feature of this show - plus the odd professional guest. Otherwise, it’s a complete waste of time - primarily because of Tobias. The quality of his questions and commentary reveal a total lack of insight and depth.

  • Remove Bill

I agree with most other listeners that Bill brings this show down. He doesn’t bring much to the table. He complains and is very cynical about almost everything he talks about. The other two guys are fantastic. This is my opinion obviously, and I don’t mean to sound rude, but I am being honest with how I feel about this show. Truth hurts sometimes.

  • Too Many F-bombs

This is an entertaining podcast with some interesting observations contained within the banter, however; at times it sounds more like a college dormitory. One of the speakers giggles a lot and then throws out F-bombs for shock value.

The Caracas Play: Venture capital and private equity investment in Venezuela with Francisco Amador
Q: How do you source deals in a market with limited sophistication among owners?
Francisco notes that sourcing hinges on a proprietary network and relationships, with brokers and investment bankers playing secondary roles. The main advantage is the fund's on-the-ground presence and reputation, which helps identify credible targets and avoid deals that could fail due to mispricing or governance issues.
The Caracas Play: Venture capital and private equity investment in Venezuela with Francisco Amador
Q: What kind of opportunities are you aiming for and how will you structure a portfolio?
The guest describes a blended approach: private equity deals for controlling stakes in private companies, venture investments, and selective real estate plays. They emphasize nimbleness and capitalization on cross-sector opportunities, with a focus on value creation through governance, operational improvements, and selective privatizations, while acknowledging limited deal flow and the need for rigorous diligence.
The Caracas Play: Venture capital and private equity investment in Venezuela with Francisco Amador
Q: Tell us a little bit about what the opportunity is in Venezuela.
Francisco explains that Venezuela represents a rare macro reopening opportunity, with potential upside across oil and gas, manufacturing, consumer and real estate, but it requires careful navigation of sanctions, political risk, and local market inefficiencies. A flexible investment mandate and first-mover advantages are key, as is building a US-entity structure to hold assets and manage risk.
