  • Good podcast but misleading name

Decent podcast, great host and good music but the name “world” is completely misleading as it only focuses on wealthy western nations in US, UK, Europe primarily. We desperately need a high quality world music podcast, somewhere, somehow hint hint;)

  • corny hosts

the musical guests are great but sound stifled in conversation with the awkward/vanilla hosts, who have the least personality of anyone in podcasting. it’s occasionally funny to listen to their canned Q&A routine with artists but it’s mostly like listening to someone read you their music history homework at a party. just hard to listen to

Mariachi music and punk rock have more in common than you might think
Q: What has reception been like performing in Mexico, and how does authenticity factor in?
The reception in Mexico was powerful and validating; we focus on playing with heart, respect for the tradition, and delivering the rhythms and spirit authentically, even as outsiders, which ultimately resonates with audiences.
Mariachi music and punk rock have more in common than you might think
Q: You mentioned differences in writing for Bronx versus Mariachi El Bronx. Do certain themes come more easily in mariachi?
Yes, writing for mariachi allowed me to explore heartfelt and relational themes more freely, whereas Bronx material leaned into aggression and raw energy; both reflect a broader range of human experience.
Mariachi music and punk rock have more in common than you might think
Q: How did you first fall in love with mariachi music?
Growing up around Los Lobos and Mexican musical influences, I absorbed mariachi more deeply after seeing the band's roots and hearing the richness of the tradition, which opened a door to singing about love and emotion.
Billy Idol has lived to tell his tale
Q: What do you remember from the early days in New York clubs that shaped your career?
I remember a raw, permissive environment where anything could happen, which made it possible to experiment and define my own style, and it was the moment when I realized I could translate that energy into a lasting solo career.
Watch: On his debut solo LP, Flea fulfills a lifelong promise
Q: How did the Nick Cave collaboration come about and what does his presence mean for the project?
The connection evolved from mutual respect and a redemptive arc after past tensions; Cave's contribution on Wichita Lineman is framed as a generous, emotionally moving extension of the collaboration that reinforces the album's themes of reconciliation and shared artistry.
